Why is it that people feel the need to be something their not??!

Is it because we're so afraid that we won't be accepted for who we Truly r? Or because we don't understand or love who we r?

I believe, people 'are' complex, and its not the healthiest thing to just accept that we 'are' this or that, because we honestly have a choice of who we will be, how we present ourself, how to behave, how to speak,,etc,, in any given moment

and every moment isn't identical

so, people adapt any number of times in a lifetime, until they find those behaviors , patterns, they prefer to hang on to and use to define themselves

but that process can still be going on when they meet others,,,so they may not 'be' the same person in six months or six years as they were the first date,,,,

For on-line only:
I think people realize they can be anyone or anything they wish to be. It's like a cyber-self can be whatever or whomever you choose yourself to be. There could be several reasons such as low self-esteem, a sense of power, make-believe, etc based on their real reasons for being on the net! Dishonesty plays a factor as well when they are pretending with someone who is trying to be real and honest!
Just some of my thoughts.

I think that there is no way to stretch yourself and grow unless you put yourself in situations where you're uncomfortable and try to be the person you want to be. That may mean trying to break old habits, or create new ones, but anyone can always slip and fall back into old habits.
