Will A Journalist License Be Required To Blog Or Tweet News Online To Avoid Prosecution?
Posted on Tuesday, 11 June 2013

So much for free speech if anything like this makes in into law. They will effectively shut down the voice of the people and put it solely in the hands of "licensed" journalists which will no doubt be granted such "licenses" based on less than noble factors. Just look at the following quotes by Senator Dick Durbin and Senator Lindsey Graham in which they indicate their UNCERTAINTY that bloggers and ordinary citizens posting content online deserve first amendment protection the int he same way "journalists" do.

Senator Dick Durbin

But here is the bottom line–the media shield law, which I am prepared to support, and I know Sen. Graham supports, still leaves an unanswered question, which I have raised many times: What is a journalist today in 2013? We know it’s someone that works for Fox or AP, but does it include a blogger? Does it include someone who is tweeting? Are these people journalists and entitled to constitutional protection? We need to ask 21st century questions about a provision in our Constitution that was written over 200 years ago.

Senator Lindsey Graham

"Who is a journalist is a question we need to ask ourselves," he said. "Is any blogger out there saying anything—do they deserve First Amendment protection? These are the issues of our times."

Is Rush Limbaugh right in asking, “are Democrats trying to create government controls over American journalists?” Shouldn’t everyone have constitutional protection under the First Amendment?

According to Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), perhaps everyone should not have that protection. Durbin attempts to ask the question “what is a journalist?” and implies there is a distinction between journalists and tweeters or bloggers.

Congress is moving forward to put in to law a federal “media shield law.” This comes after Eric Holder of the Department of Justice subpoenaed James Rosen of Fox News under the Espionage Act. Rosen was accused as being a co-conspirator, when he was doing his job as an investigative reporter.

Rush Limbaugh recently said on his national radio show that what Durbin is really saying is to license journalists, and that tweeters and bloggers are not journalists.

“That’s where the democrats are headed on this, “You tweeters, you bloggers, you’re not journalists. We are going to determine who is a journalist and who isn’t. We are going to license journalists. I mean, that Constitution’s 200-plus years old. It’s no longer relevant,” is what he means.”

“So the government will decide who’s a journalist and who isn’t and grant licenses and approvals. And if you don’t get your license and you start doing journalism, you could be sent to jail, or you could be reprimanded.”

The Sickening Snowden Backlash
by Kirsten Powers Jun 14, 2013 4:45 AM EDT

It's appalling to hear the Washington bureaucrats and their media allies trash Edward Snowden as a traitor, when it's our leaders and the NSA who have betrayed us, writes Kirsten Powers.

You can actually learn a lot scrutinizing propaganda and opinion pieces.

Never trust. But that does not mean some of it can't be true. All good propaganda pieces are mixed with some truth.
