Im sure its been posted in the past,, but ,,,

If I were the Devil . . . I mean, if I were the Prince of Darkness,

I would of course, want to engulf the whole earth in darkness. I would have a third of its real estate and four-fifths of its population, but I would not be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree, so I should set about however necessary to take over the United States.

I would begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: “Do as you please.” “Do as you please.”

To the young, I would whisper, “The Bible is a myth.” I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around.

I would confide that what is bad is good, and what is good is “square”.

In the ears of the young marrieds, I would whisper that work is debasing, that cocktail parties are good for you. I would caution them not to be extreme in religion, in patriotism, in moral conduct.

And the old, I would teach to pray. I would teach them to say after me: “Our Father, which art in Washington” . . .

If I were the devil, I’d educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull an uninteresting.

I’d threaten T.V. with dirtier movies and vice versa.

And then, if I were the devil, I’d get organized. I’d infiltrate unions and urge more loafing and less work, because idle hands usually work for me.

I’d peddle narcotics to whom I could.

I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. And I’d tranquilize the rest with pills.

If I were the devil, I would encourage schools to refine yound intellects but neglect to discipline emotions . . . let those run wild.

I would designate an athiest to front for me before the highest courts in the land and I would get preachers to say “she’s right.”

With flattery and promises of power, I could get the courts to rule what I construe as against God and in favor of pornography, and thus, I would evict God from the courthouse, and then from the school house, and then from the houses of Congress and then,

in His own churches I would substitute psychology for religion,

and I would deify science because that way men would become smart enough to create super weapons but not wise enough to control them.

If I were Satan, I’d make the symbol of Easter an egg, and the symbol of Christmas, a bottle.

If I were the devil, I would take from those who have and I would give to those who wanted, until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. And then, my police state would force everybody back to work. T

hen, I could separate families, putting children in uniform, women in coal mines, and objectors in slave camps. In other words, if I were Satan, I’d just keep on doing what he’s doing.

Your postings and threads are always well thought out and expressed with intelligence, but this one I really enjoyed. Very thought provoking for sure. I hate to admit it but I am guilty of some of the things listed, made me stop and think for sure. Some times the truth hurts. Thank you.

Interesting, but smacks a little of the logical fallacies found in Justin Martyr.

I would ask you a "If I were" question, as posed by Tim Harden:

If I were a carpenter, and you were a lady
Would you marry me anyway?
Would you have my baby?
If a tinker were my trade, would you still find me
Carrying the pots I made - following behind me?

Save my love through loneliness
Save my love through sorrow
I give you my only-ness
Give me your tomorrow

If I worked my hands in wood, would you still love me?
Answer me, babe: "yes I would - I'd put you above me"
If a miller were my trade, at a mill wheel grinding
Would you miss your colour box - your soft shoes shining

Save my love through loneliness
Save my love through sorrow
I give you my only-ness
Give me your tomorrow

If I were a carpenter, and you were a lady
Would you marry me anyway?
Would you have my baby?
Would you marry me anyway?
Would you have my baby?

If I were a carpenter,, hmmm

I think the analogy would require you to give examples of what your behavior would be if you were in the trade,,, you personally,, IF you were a carpenter

rather than inquiring how others might respond to you being a carpenter

but, yeah, Id personally marry anyone that I loved enough, and love isnt going to be determined by occupation (at least not for me..lol)

To the young, I would whisper, “The Bible is a myth.” I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around.

Most of the stories in the Bible are myths and fables. They are stories that are supposed to teach people things. They were never meant to be taken literally. If they were history, then they would be taught as history and there would be evidence to back that up. (The Bible is a collection of books and each book should be judged on its own merit.)

The concept of what "God" is should be defined before you make any claims on who create who or how. Everyone has the responsibility and freedom to develop their own concept of what God is and any particular religious group who tries to do it for you are force feeding their personal concepts to others.

Does "The Devil" really exist or is that too a figment of someone's imagination?

If you saw the Devil would you know who he or she was? Is he a being of light or a draconian monster with a tail? He is anything you think he is.

Well the people back in Biblical times were a bunch of dummys.

They were like children. They needed to be taught with the use of stories with a moral.

And man does perceive, define, measure, identify this reality and everything in it which according to quantum science would not exist without an observer.

Consciousness is God.

odd, I think of modern people as dummies who are very little without their 'technology' and biblical cultures as pretty intelligent creators/survivors even WITHOUT the technology

then and now, noone has learned without being taught, by someone or something,, so thats not how I measure intelligence,,

more of that diverse perception, I guess

I didn't want to insult everyone, I think modern people are mostly dummies too, but gradually they are waking up and becoming more conscious.

But most Biblical people were less conscious... by a long shot. I'm sure some of them were not so bad, but as a whole... not so aware.

we will never know, they made some pretty astute observations that 'modern' science has most recently verified itself

all without the aid of technology,,,,

but, who is to say, the ultimate test of intelligence to me is survival,, and without them having done that,, with no vaccines, modern medical advances, or technology

we wouldnt be here,, which makes it hard for me to believe most of them were dummies,,,but it does come back to how one defines intelligence in the first place,,,

I think they were extremely conscious of their environment, as we try to be about ours

I believe the conscious ones can see beyond technology. There are always a few conscious ones among us not so conscious ones.
