Looks like an illegitimate model to me. I'm staying away from it.

It's not that it's illegitimate. It just does things in a different way. You bid on items that you want. You do that on eBay, too. Only on QuiBids, you have to pay for every bid, in advance, and cannot specify another bid increment. Then, there's a back-loaded auction fee paid by the buyer. Also, the site sets up the auctions, not the users of the site. So, you're not going to be selling your collectables on QuiBids.

That said, yeah, it's probably a good idea to forget about it, unless you're super determined to buy their iPad or Wii system. Then you're probably just splitting the purchase price with the other poor users of that site. Possibly not even "winning" the auction.
