what are some of the obstacles you are stronger for overcoming
what are some of the blessings you are grateful for..?


My daughter is brilliant, loving, confident IN SPITE of not having a father

My son and I have a loving relationship IN SPITE of my disagreement with his lifestyle

I have food and shelter IN SPITE of meager earnings

I stay hopeful IN SPITE Of the obstacles life throws at me


BECAUSE of my network of family support, I have been able to get through obstacles without severe or unmanagable sacrifice

BECAUSE of my parents example, I am able to stand firm in my values and integity


...I think some people have achieved a socioeconomic status in life BECAUSE of certain predetermined advantages their family provided

and some have achieved IN SPITE of certain predetermined disadvantages their family suffered,,,



success is always possible, as is love, and safety,,etc

and it doesnt require us to turn a blind eye to the good or the bad, just that we can use the goods as stepping stones and the bads as lessons,,,,,,and keep moving forward,,,

I feel and am healthier than I've ever been IN SPITE of being 39.
I'm working on earring my Bachelors IN SPITE of the fact I probably should've earned it years ago.

Please omit statements to yourself like i should have.. they are self defeating! Education is life long as a former prof myself i found the older students as a group much more disciplined serious, and had a stronger sense of what they were doing and why. Keep up and ignore anyone who says anything negative Years ago a lad said to me "im 50 years old and i wont be a college graduate till im 54" and i simply said" well in four years you are going to be 54 anyway, why not be 54 and have a college degree? She laughed and chose to go back to school. Best of luck...

Maybe I should pick 'Because of...........'. I honestly think if I hadn't suffered with such a painful colon illness, as a child and teen, then I wouldn't know the meaning of stopping to smell the roses. I get the feeling, that only others who have had debilitating illness, will know what I mean by this. I get the torture of having to "just cope", when everyone around you can only TRY to understand the meaning of "in pain".

Yeah...This could get dark on my side.

I've made a relatively successful livelihood despite having, for all intensive purposes, a 10th grade education.

I'm an extremely healthy person despite being born with illnesses that gave me a year at best.

I know what you mean on a couple of different levels from old athletic injuries and skating falls...it is hard ro describe a debilitating pain to others.. I feel like I sound like a whiner eve ntho I know it isn't true

Obstacles I am stronger for overcoming? hmmm...poverty...everything I have which is not a whole lot I earned on my own or made. I have never missed but one day of work in 15 years that wasn't a holiday or vacation day. I've held a few jobs that are nowhere near what I am qualified to do because of my determination to overoome poverty and remain employed. I have taken no assistance from the gov't to oversome pverty.

Injuries & scoliosis of the spine. I have overcome 2 fairly serious athletic injuries. Technically I should not be walking...not only am I walking....I can run on an elliptical, I hike and do yoga. Never went to a Dr for any of it. The scoliosis never stopped me from playing sports or running long distance

Blessings I am grateful for

an outstanding educational background and parents who made sure I got that

all the wonderful teachers I have had both in school and avocational subjects

my children who prove time & time again that they are worth all the faith and trust I have put in them

my health and each day given by God to see the sun , breathe the air, and smile at the familiar faces that surround me each day

interesting work, it's more than just a job!

msharmony...Thanks for starting this thread!...Well for whatever reason I am the last person left in my family...I have to find a way to keep on "going" even though my husband and both my sons passed-away...I'm an only child with no brothers or sisters and my parents are gone too...I figure that there must be some reason why I am still "here." So I keep on "going" even though it's rough at times.

I was blessed with a fantastic son and wonderful daughter, who turned out alright despite not having a mother.

I was blessed with life abundant and interesting.

I overcame my service during war. The service taught me to be a man.
I overcame my son's death. I learned to forgive hate.
I am overcoming my kidney disease. I still work hard.

As Tim Allen said in one of his movies, "Never give up. Never surrender."

Yeah :). You're not whining, you're merely just telling us your experiences with pain. It may help someone to know they're not alone. Never feel guilty for being ill or in pain. I once had to stay at home on Christmas Day of all days. My mum got angry about me being ill that day. I asked her how would it be convenient having diahorrea and puking at someone else's house. She then saw why I wanted to stay home. There was no point trekking to gran's house, when I was bathroom bound. Some people just don't get it. Sorry for the groce details, but that's just one example of being misunderstood while ill.

My Son is healthy and doing well, after a difficult time in the Military.

Thankful for my career that grew and lead to a good retirement.

I have food and shelter and nice home.

I am hopeful and happy about Life.

Thankful for positive "family" support all my Life.

Thankful for growing up with Wonderful parents.
