Topic: I've Heard It All Now... | |
---|---|
Just read in USA Today that Kia Vaughn, a junior baskerball player at Rutgers University has filed a defamation of character lawsuit against radio shock-jock Don Imus and his then-employer CBS for the "remark" Imus made about the team following their loss to Tennessee in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. Vaughn's lawsuit says Imus, former sidekick Bernard McGuirk, and CBS are responsible for damage to her character and reputation. No dollar amount was listed.
WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!!!!! Vaughn doesn't deserve a dime. Not only should she lose this case, she should be forced to pay legal fees for all the defendants! WHAT FREAKING REPUTATION? No one knows who she is-no one the hell even CARES, for cryin' out loud. Her winning this case would set the most dangerous precident this country ever saw. A victory could mean the end of talk radio as we know it. Any radio host, such as Rush, Al Franken, or Jim Rome, could be sued for anything they said. This is not a liberal or conservative issue. This affects us ALL-this, quite possibly, could end up as an attack upon ALL forms of free speech. What's next? Little Johnny suing little Sally because she called him a "poop-head" on the playground? OK, there's my rant. What do the rest of you think? |

what exactly was the remark???
Imus called the Rutgers team, "nappy headed hoes".

ohhhhhhhh this is old news btw.....calling someone that is not only derogatory but I find it politically incorrect in todays world. Hasn't he already offered an on air apology?
Yeah, but she's suing anyway. Awfully funny that her lawsuit is announced the same day CBS bought out Imus' contract.
Boyohboy, what a co-inky-dink there |

Yea and she claims it was directed toward her personally. I for 1 agrree CRAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP....... She should be made to pay the attorneys fees. Maybe we would not have so many lawsuits. I for 1 believe in a biblical interpretation of the law. If someone accuses u of anything and they lose or are found out to be liars then they get the punishment. That would clear alot of things up.. Take care and Blessings ... Miles

So many people in this country are just waiting to see who they can slap a lawsuit on so they won't have to work the rest of their live's. Not insinuating of course that this is the case but just a thought. Gotta be careful she may be on this site

We should ALL sue the media, for being cowardly lying whores.

Suing Imus is her right. The guy defamed her needlessly. Radio and TV mouthpieces should have a little caution about who they malign. Its a free ride for the girl suing him. He slanders her, she has proof, she can sue. If you don't like it, tough luck. That's the law. Personally I don't think he had malice in his heart and was simply having callous disregard in his pursuit of humor. Nevertheless, its her personally that he made comments about.

omg. We are waaaay too lawsuit-happy these days!
Can I sue you for posting about Imus? |
But, philosopher, this is why the court system is in the horrible shape it's in. Frivilous lawsuits causing a backlog of cases that'll take years to sort out.
And she was defamed? Please. If she falls to pieces over THAT (stupid) comment, I feel VERY sorry for her when she has to deal with real-world situations. |
I'm gonna sue you for calling Philosopher's post "stupid". |
Hey, Bay Area Girl , I didn't call philosopher's post stupid.... I called Imus' comment stupid.
Oops. Ok. Are you going to sue me for getting that wrong? |
No way . I don't believe in frivolous lawsuits. Of course, we can settle out of court for a few .
Not much difference here on site, say something wrong, get suspended. People need to remember the rights of the person
spoken about. Opinion's OK State it as a fact, your wrong. |
Oldsage, Imus didn't state it as fact. He said that what he thought they looked like. Hell, if I sued everyone who's made fun of my looks, I'd be in court every day till 2038!
The point is, she needs to move on. People say things like that all the time. Sticks and stones will break my bones.... But names will never hurt me. Maybe she should be thankful he didn't throw sticks and stones at her . |
Lets see.. she is better than the rest of the team. She is what makes the team so of cource the comments hurt her the most.
Women say equal rights. I believe they mean superior rights. What about these team members. This country is losing it's mind. We are the biggest hippocrites ( IMO) on this planet... Miles, you make a good point as to why one player should feel more offended than the rest of the team...
...but I don't feel this is a gender issue. I feel it's a frivolous lawsuit issue. Anybody can sue anybody for anything these days. The only winners in this are lawyers. And we ALL know about them. |
Sorry, I meant to say,
You make a good point as to why SHOULD one played feel more offended than the rest of the team. |
