I'm curious about it, though I don't have much hope for it as it's written by Diablo Cody.
If only we would have gotten Evil Dead 4 picking up where the original ending of Army of Darkness left off. |

I've been watching trailers, and reading up on articles about this
movie, and I am optimistic that this is going to be awesome. Yeah, the original ending left it open for a post-apocalyptic Mad Max / Evil Dead type of movie. |

Really too bad Bruce Campbell didnt want to do another one...Sam Raimi's directing though, right?

I wonder if there will be a Bruce Campbell cameo.
Something like a gas station owner telling the kids not to go to that cabin. |

I got to see it friday, and it was 'Groovy'.
I don't want to give anything away, but the lone survivor with the severed hand + chainsaw was a nice touch. Last person I was expecting to make it out alive. |

I saw it last weekend. A friend of mine wanted to see it so bad and I was curious enough to check it out. If you loved the original then you may or may not like this version. It does have elements of the first film within it but I haven't watched the original in such a long time that I could not tell you how close this new version gets to it.
The movie isn't really scary. There are some parts that will get ya, but it appears the director wanted more shock value. Trust me....if you love blood and gore then you are gonna want to see this movie as it will satisfy that hunger. One of the characters is annoying and one other is simply there to die in gruesome fashion. I am guessing that the final five to seven minutes will end up being talked about by horror fans for years to come....and yes!....those final five to seven minutes do involve the chainsaw. However, you may be distracted by the burning cabin as....guess what....it keeps burning and burning all the while the cabin does not crumble. Overall, I don't think it is a bad horror film. If Diablo Cody did write this then it was a low point for her as the dialogue was sub par. |

You're pretty dead on that description. It is very different from Sam Raimi's original. It sure beats most any cgi filled garbage horror flicks. That came about in the last few years.

****SPOILERS****
Did absolutely nothing for me. They come up with the "deep" plot of wanting to help their friend quit drugs, then half way through the movie it felt like that was just a throwaway, and wasn't even remotely necessary. None of the characters were likable, granted the original Evil Dead was weak in the dialog department, but Raimi made up for it in spades with his wild camera work and images. The remake looked like every other modern horror remake. The possessed looked like they belonged in The Exorcist. The tree scene, instead of being disturbing like the original, it just looked like the girl got a tree slug (or whatever it was) shot up her hoo-haw. They threw in lines from the original, but mainly it sounded like they just threw them in to remind us that it was a remake. One thing the Evil Dead franchise had going for it, instead of the cliche final girl, they had a guy who survived the films. Of course they got rid of this and went right back to the final girl cliche. And where in the original film( wait I mean Evil Dead II) when Ash gets the chainsaw for his stump it's a memorable moment in the franchise, in the remake it came off silly and anti-climatic (much like Jason getting the hockey mask in the Friday The 13th remake). Oh, but it's a good thing they had their friend along who just happened to be able to translate the Book. All I can say is, if this is how Bruce and Sam feel about the franchise now, I really don't want them making an Evil Dead 4, especially if there's a chance that Diablo Cody could be involved. |

That's not saying much considering the track record of mainstream released Hollywood horror films are crap. With a rare exception here and there like Cabin In The Woods. |
