Some jobs have been phased out due to new laws, modernization and plant shutdowns whether partial or full. Candy Stripers are not allowed where we work at nursing homes. Candy Stripers used to be volunteer workers. Have you ever lost a job due to being phased out?

Yep- was replaced by a computorized machine...

I can identify with that. The marriage license on the wall I had to take down. It is still valid in a spiritual sense but like you say it is a phasing out.

No, I have always had jobs where there was a high demand. It's important to find a job that you not only like but there is a high demand for, also if you can also do it at home or on the road. Computers are taking some of our jobs but I have a feeling that the manual jobs will be in high demand soon.

MsTeddyBear2u, had that happened where I worked at a job before. 50 ladies who used pack chicken patties were phased out by one Formax. The Formax does the same thing as they did but it is more efficient when it is not being repaired by maintenance because Supervisors try to run it too fast.

No, not yet. I can see that happening in some form or fashion given how everything is being outsourced overseas or becoming more automated. BUT, I think as long as you have a good work ethic and have a good head on your shoulders, then a person shouldn't have problems taking care of themselves.

I can agree with that, Gypsy. When I used to work maintenance all one really needed was a pair of channel locks for most jobs. But as modernization with computer replacements came into effect the maintenance men had to be retrained. It was one of the reasons I had to take computer classes.

BayAreaGal, I have noticed that. The whole plant where I worked at before had people who were given the option of upgrading with the company through a retraining to work with machines or given the option to find a new job.

the funny thing is right now, in the medical field, the LPN's are doing the RN's old job and the CNA's are doing the LPN's job...and the RN's now just do paperwork!!!! There is going to be a huge uproar as well since the LPN's make $1.50 an hour more than a CNA here and the RN's make about double the LPNs do......

I think we streamline things so well that we have to create new positions to make up for the old ones. Hence the rise in physician assistants and lab technicians, etc. It's the same everywhere now. Senior exec, midlevel manager, worker bee, and everything else in between!

When I talk to my son about jobs and his future, I think about his abilities, and what he could actually do not exactly what he wants to do. He wants to become a soldier!!! WTF>>>??? OVER MY DEAD BODY YOU ARE GONNA BE A SOLDIER!!!! noway noway noway When he finds out how much they really make, Im hoping he will change his mind.....oh forget changing his mind....I WILL NOT ALLOW IT!!!! devil devil
