Never tried it before, looking for a new experience x

My own personal experience with it was not pleasant. I was in yearlong committed relationship with a man who moved half a country away with a promotion. I could not go with him at the time, but we continued the relationship for another year, talking on the phone and visiting as often as possible. It drove us both batty and we ended up giving each other up to save our sanity.
The crux being, my career was never going to take me there, and his was never going to bring him back to me. Who should give up their life and everything they worked half their lives to achieve? Neither one of us wanted the other to give up that much of themselves, and both of us were scared of resentments down the road if one of us just “went for it” and sacrificed all. Long distance love affairs are not for me. |

I'm not ready to date yet. Or ready to get romantically involved with someone right now...So I'd probably do okay with a long-distance "friendship."

Long distance love affairs are not for me. Maybe too much so. That's just one particular instance between two particular people. Strangely enough, a part of me also agrees with OLDSAGE. I was very close to giving up everything. Very close. Neverthelsee, the bad experience will not allow the sensible side of me to venture there again. |

i believe its rare that it works out.
I tried it a couple of times and think that trust would be the hardest part of it. There is so many issues to overcome like how often will you see each other? How expensive is it going to be to travel back and forth?..whos going to give up their job to move? I rather find someone close. Its just too much trouble for me. It wouldn't take much for someone close to woooo you away from the LDR and thats another issue |

Hmmmm if you are looking for a new experience I would probably try hitting yourself in the head with a brick, it's probably less painful.. However it can work and can be great, however it is tough at times. So if you find someone closer choose that.
Not that I would swap long distance, I just wouldnt choose it. |

if one of you can and would move to the other one day, yes. otherwise, it's a long long journey
into the depths of driving yourself crazy. choose wisely padawn.. ;) |

Relationships rarely work without one partner moving to the other. Especially if they live more than a few hours drive.

Josie and Annaconda WOW great story.
Were you long distance friends at first? I keep trying closer to home and find so often the home listed on site is false (suspected scammers) I am too gullible and naive to figure it out right off. I started to fall for long distance a couple times now, and realize it's not for me. 90 minutes is my max away from here now. |

I am one that did a long distance relationship before...9000 miles. He lived in New Zealand and I live in Indiana..it was a great vacation for both of us BUT it would never work out, way to expensive.
LDR= No I am not a fan of LDR!! But Good luck! |

Don't you think it's neccesary to gaze into each others eyes before you can be in love, making long distance meeting too risky? I know the preexhisting love can continue, but a new one flourish? What do you think about that?
