no depending on the crap-ware u have on it or if u have avast or what antivirus program u have can cause this. Case in point The Asus system with win8 has no crap-ware ,but on boot-up forced install of crappy silver-light I promptly uninstalled it for my client. Installed ccleaner and configed then ran it. Then installed Firefox it ran fine.

windows defender can be taken off take that off. use norton removal tool and download the appropriate one aka they have one for norton 360 and norton security.. and so forth. You should Then reboot. Then go thru the user names public admin and ur user name under app data - local roaming ans so forth removing any and all norton folders. If you see a mcafee folder . Download mcafee removal tool according to the version of mcafee you have on there, and run and remove that too. then delete the folders accordingly.
Then install and config ccleaner and run it, - there is help on the site.

Then install and run bitdefender.

JT did you wipe your HD- and reformat it ?

OS 8 is a great product so I am not sure I understand what you are doing or why????

You want to go into the boot menu by tapping consistently during boot up - when you select CD/DVD as first boot option be sure to "save" or it will continue to boot from your HD and if your HD hasn't been reformatted it still has OS 8 on there

the "save and exit" instructions are at the bottom of your boot menu screen - read them carefully

couple yrs ago Norton had some issues so I got rid of it - after several choices I'd recommend MS security essentials and it will override WDefender - don't worry about it

yes - tho it technically does not have compatability issues with MS OS - it really is more compatible (in my opinion) with an open source format. If you don't like IE9 or 10 try Chrome. Why would you want to remove the best OS out there just because the browser is acting up.

also make sure your not using a BETA version of FF

I'm using Firefox and Windows 8 right now just fine. Your issue is most likely with Norton or some Firefox add-on. Uninstall Norton and see if Firefox works fine. If it does, install Microsoft Security Essentials instead of Norton.

You could try Bitdefender instead of MSE if you want. I've never used it myself but hp20111 recommends it.

If Firefox is still crashing, check your add-ons

You can keep 8 and just go with another UI if you like by bypassing
Metro.

first I do not recommend formatting your HD alone if you have never been trained or have never done it before. Do not let a 3rd party software run your BIOS?OS (format and petition your HD)

and do not wipe your HD unless you have the original boot CD with your licemse KEY or create one and record your license key

If you format you will lose all files so you need a successful back up to a secondary HD or CD

go to F10 that is the Boot Menu (not F2) - basically stay out of BIOS unless you want to set a SYS password or something like that

If you have been in BIOS return it to its default settings THEN go into your boot menu. You can then select and SAVE the CD as your 1st boot option. You can boot & run a foreign or alternate OS from CD. You might want to try that with FF before formatting the HD.

But I think the best way to deal with the browser is the suggestion above in green about unistalling and reinatalling FF - not a BETA version - (you may even want to rollback to a previous version if you have the newest or update the version if you have an older one...for OS 8 comapability)

You do not want to get rid of OS 8 - you're better off to change browsers or get a new version of your browser

u can msg me if u need to JT :)

K

run from a command prompt if u know how

I mean - I have never had that problem so IDK really - just throwing a suggestion CD/DVD doesn't even have to be the 1st boot option - good luck

I'd just migrate to Chrome or use a diff version of FF
