Out of boredom and curiousity I have decided to read the bible . I have a new century version ? I dont know the difference . What is the difference ? I read the first page of Genesis and it seems a bit different than what I remember .

Im agnostic and I am NOT reading because I feel I need spiritual guidance or anything of the sort . Im just reading like anyone else reads a book . I was just curious about the difference between the King James Version and the New Century Version that I have .

I will have 2 check the Net to see what is this. If it's the new King James version well I know abot that a little. the english is you instead of thou. They have changed old english words like 'thee, thy goest etcetc.

You wont like exploring some topics topics too. the back of the Bible might have some suggestions.

King James Version reads more like poetry with "thou, thee, and thy, hath", etc.

New Century Version reads more like regular english.


The gist of the stories are the same. If you have trouble reading the language of one, find another version that reads easily for you.

If you’re interested in getting a quick idea of what chapters are about this site has nice little summaries of each chapter blocked in above the actual chapters. You can actually go through and just read the summaries and get a pretty good idea of what a book or chapter is about.

The Bible is also a good book to read when you are not having trouble. It is a book that can bring understanding or questions that bring up more understanding. This new book you speak of is unfamiliar to me. I prefer the older ones. One must be careful or research words. Some translated words can change dramatically when translated. Thus changing what was originally written.
Such as there are words that meant woman or women, even female that were changed in some parts of the Bible that when changed became man, male or masculine. Research, that is where info can change.

What's with business interests copyrighting the divinely inspired Word of God? Where are they sending the checks for the residuals?

Why is it that people read something into brief periods of non-activity?

Its not like everyone here is sitting at our keyboards, just twitching for the opportunity to read something. Okay, well maybe I am, but thats not the point.

I think that's what Scttrbrain was talking about. Some of the newer "versions" are not written or approved by the "International Bible Society", which is the group who 'governs' the correct translation into that particular verbiage. I'm pretty sure the royalties go back to this group (or something like that). I think they are a bunch of scholars from around the world who literally have to agree word for word how each passage is to be translated into that particular version.

In any case, I'm not an expert on the copyright stuff, 'tho, so all I can say is... stick to the versions you've heard of such as NIV, KJV, etc., and always, always, ALWAYS ask questions and question your sources. Don't ever follow doctrine blindly!
