I browsed through the profile of few users in this site and I came across the term "serious relationship"...
Now, I wonder what people mean by the term "serious" in context to relationships !!!

I am not an European and it is obvious that I do not have all the knowledge about relationships but still I do know what it means... I know how important individuality is. In a continent where individuality is preferred over society people are talking about "serious" relationships...

Here, what I don't get is that, something that is serious to me may not be serious to you... Is it not true ?
Then what do people mean by saying "serious relationship" ? What is that "seriousness" here ?
:)
Just wondering... :)

It means they're looking for some more than casual dating and sex. Keep in mind that saying it doesn't always mean it's true.

Communicating on a Mature level. No games, being upfront. Something that is often difficult to find on date sites.

Serious...
As in a heart-attack.
What else could it mean?

Then again, who knows how 'serious' people really are when they throw words out like that.
I suppose you could take their word for it and see what happens.

Dating is a game. It's a game for men and women to find another person, a mate, to help provide what they alone can not provide. Dating site lingo, "serious" means marriage is the desired goal.

okay... I confess... I might be one of the guilty parties... the following is part of my profile message about myself and what I'm looking for here on Mingle...

"I also and ultimately desire a seriously committed relationship, after there has been ample time for friendship."

I want to meet "the one" who is meant for me... and if I do, then I want to take our connection slowly yet seriously as we interact and get to know each other over time... to me "seriously committed relationship" means that we will be loyal to each other, that we will be respectful of each others feelings, and be able to trust each other completely, that our friendship will evolve into an intimate relationship, and that we might even live together for at least a year before eventually getting married... I only want to be with one more man before my life journey ends, and whoever "he is" needs to know what my intentions are up front... but, just becuz this is what I want for my life doesn't mean it will play out this way... life may have another road she wants to take me down... so I'm keeping an open mind, and willing heart...

The word "serious" can probably be a turn-off...If I was ready to date and meet someone new I might pass-over a man who used the term "serious" (a lot) in his profile...Hearing "serious" brings back memories of being in school again...Being told to be a "serious student." And when I hear "serious" I think "strict." Or "somber."...I think about having to adhere to rules and regulations...Being controlled or "pigeon-holded" and told what to "do."...I understand that a lot of people "play games." And some people might be after "casual affairs" etc...So maybe it's a good idea to "spell-out" what we want. (And don't want etc.)...But still if a man used the term "serious" a lot in his profile or talked about definitely aiming (and intending) to get married (or get married again) I'd probably pass him up...I have no idea what the future might hold in store for me right now. So I wouldn't want to disappoint a man who was definitely "shopping" for a wife or a "serious relationship" right now...I don't want to do "affairs." But I don't want to think in terms of marriage right now either. Maybe just a relaxed and casual (and fun) "play-it-by-ear" friendship with no pressure for "more."

According to me, do you know Einstein or specifically, theory of relativity? It explains everything is relative. So it is as you said, a thing might be serious to you while it is not for me. All in all it is better to understand the theory of relativity well. After all we are individuals and we all have different opinions about everything
