I used to spend a couple of hours in the gym three times a week. I had to stop for six months due to surgery.

How long does this stiffness last? I think I remember the soreness lasts a week, but I don't remember the stiffness.

And yes, I am enjoying being back in the gym.

It would all depend on what kind of surgery and something you might should ask your doctor.. May be other issues that is causing the stiffness..whoa

If it is just restarting an exercise regimen after a long layoff then it is likely that you simply need to start slower with lower level of activity and stretching after the muscles are all warmed up by light weights and 5-10 mins of light aerobic exercise. Take it all slower and you should find that you will be able to stretch the muscles and improve flexibility.

Flexibility is gained as muscles become accustomed to more regular use and as they get used. Flexibility is lost the longer you go without exercise.

See links below about loss of flexibility and general flexibility.

Flexibility is lost when u stop stretching. Try squatting 325 to the bucket not a sissy squat at 145 lbs. Without stretching. Not cool. Muscle mass decreases flexibility so its recommended you stretch fore and aft working out.

Your legs r ur foundation. Even if u do iso type of workouts you use your legs. Take it easy and make sure you eating drinking water and sleeping enough. Be safe since leg injuries take the longest to heal. Anywhere its just normal. Make sure to warmup atleast 10 15 min then do your thing. Nothing to intense. Keep it moderate low then pick up the intensity when you know you can. If u question it it aint time.
