Ye Ol’ Men

They joined together
to sing songs from long ago
celebrating
with such merry cheer
the hearty laughter
of strong
weathered voices
with no trace of the day’s toil
toast yesterday
as if it was tomorrow’s hope

Ye ol’ men
who carry with them
a soldier’s past
gathered to drink
to the absence of those journeyed before them
their voices grow
louder and louder
as if they are trapped
in a defining spirit
of never letting a moment of joy go
they are the youth
time did not forget
tied in a knot
so that they are forever bound
by memories

*Ok I wrote this because I can remember my father and his army buddies gathering around the bar in the basement laughing about a time long before me. It was so cool to listen to their stories; watching them, listening to them . . . man it was truly an experience that I'll never forget.

This depicts deep and loving memories of my own father and his basement "man cave" gatherings... You really captured it perfectly Mig...I still mourn his passing and cherish these tender moments when they happen...So, thank you very much for this one!
