A petition to try California Sen. Dianne Feinstein for treason has surpassed the required 25,000 signatures to require the White House give an official response to the request.

More than 27,000 Americans signed the petition, which accuses Feinstein of “actively working to destroy the Second Amendment” to the Constitution by introducing a new version of the 1990s-era assault weapons ban, according to WeThePeople.org.

“Senator Dianne Feinstein has made it clear she does not believe in the Constitution or the inalienable rights of Americans to keep and bear arms,” wrote Christopher H., of Northridge, Calif., the creator of the petition and its first signature.

“She is actively working to destroy the 2nd amendment with her 2013 assault weapons ban. For this reason we the people of the united States petition for her to be tried in Federal Court for treason to the Constitution.”

After the shooting of 27 people, including 20 children, at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., Feinstein said she would introduce her updated version of the ban on the first day of the new Congress in an attempt to prevent future massacres.

“I intend to introduce a bill stopping the sale, transfer, importation, and manufacturing of assault weapons as well as large ammunition magazines, strips and drums that hold more than 10 rounds,” Feinstein said in a press release.

“I have been working with my staff for over a year on this legislation,” Feinstein added. “It will be carefully focused on the most dangerous guns that have killed so many people over the years while protecting the rights of gun owners by exempting hundreds of weapons that fall outside the bill’s scope. We must take these dangerous weapons of war off our streets.”

On his petition, Christopher H. alleges that Feinstein is attempting to remove one of the basic protections of the Constitution: That citizens may arm themselves in protection against a tyrannical government.

“The Constitution was written to restrain the government,” the petition says. “No amendment is more important for this purpose than the 2nd amendment. The 2nd amendment was written so the power could be kept with the citizenry in the face of a tyrannical government. It was well understood the Constitution acknowledged certain rights that could not be limited by government.”

The petition is only symbolic. Obama was on the news today because he is considering an "executive order" to increase gun control.

So, symbolic petitions have become the new tactic in the lobbyist vocabulary. A treason trial wouldn't fly for a second and, as an outsider looking in, it's fascinating to observe the levels of hysteria generated by this debate.

well, here Stuff like this has Bite, since we can turn it into a Referendum, and then Government has to act whether they like it or not!
I think this "Petition-Crap" is one of Obama's Feel-Good Policies anyhow!laugh
Showing how much he cares!
Between Vacations!

The reason Politicians try so hard to get re-elected is that they would "hate" to have to make a living under the laws they've passed.laugh
But Feinstein's moves are definitely unconstitutional under the US Constitution, and she took an Oath to defend the Constitution!

Told you so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This petition sends a VERY strong message to Obama. In point of fact, if she got that "law" passed, it WOULD BE TREASON, and Obama would be duty bound to arrest her and everyone else who voted to pass it for treason against the constitution (this would apply to him as well, if he issued a treasonous executive order...which he has already BTW). The Trial would have to go to the Supreme court, and if the judges are fair, the charged parties would be found guilty as charged.

Obama could care less what gun owners think about him or how many sign a petition. He would naturally assume any who sign the petition are not his fans anyway. He is trying to enact new gun controls under executive order! Wouldn't that mean that he is the one to be impeached?
