Ingredients
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts, toasted
1/2 cup almond liqueur
1 cup butter
8 (1-ounce) unsweetened chocolate squares
5 large eggs
3 1/3 cups sugar
1/4 cup Swiss mocha instant coffee mix
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt

Preparation
Soak chopped walnuts in liqueur 4 to 6 hours. Drain, discarding liqueur. Set walnuts aside.
Melt butter and chocolate in a heavy saucepan over low heat.

Beat eggs, sugar, and coffee mix at medium-high speed with an electric mixer 8 minutes. Gradually add chocolate mixture, beating at low speed until blended. Gradually add vanilla, flour, and salt, beating until blended. Stir in walnuts. Pour into a lightly greased aluminum foil-lined 13- x 9-inch pan.

Bake at 350° for 35 to 45 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into squares.

Note: For testing purposes only, we used International Coffees Suisse Mocha for coffee mix.

Homemade Icing:

2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons milk

Mix the powdered sugar with the vanilla and milk. Then add more milk a bit at a time until it is thin enough to drizzle over a cake. Once you've iced your cake, it's best to let it stand for one or two hours.

To make chocolate icing, add two tablespoons cocoa powder when you mix the powdered sugar and follow the rest of the recipe above.

you can use regular walnuts and skip the liqueur... also 1 oz of semi-sweet chocolate chips work just as well

hope this helps hon

Hmmm, it's been a while (a very long while), I wouldn't even know where to get the "special" ingredient. Scarily enough, my 12 year old could probably give me some pointers!

>When you said special brownies, I really thought you meant "special" brownies

LOL No No....not "special special" noway LOL laugh

I like to make things for my friends that in the first bite it is an ~experience~ for the taste buds... not the brain cells, at least not at first  LOL

Has anyone ever made brownies with cayenne pepper???

Sassy your recipe sounds really yummy(Thanks)!

I thought you meant that kind of "special" brownies as well...

but although I don't have the exact recipe I have had brownies that had zucchini in them that were so good- i know if sounds weird but they were great. Heres a similar recipe:

NGREDIENTS
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups shredded zucchini
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup margarine
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, mix together the oil, sugar and 2 teaspoons vanilla until well blended. Combine the flour, 1/2 cup cocoa, baking soda and salt; stir into the sugar mixture. Fold in the zucchini and walnuts. Spread evenly into the prepared pan.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until brownies spring back when gently touched. To make the frosting, melt together the 6 tablespoons of cocoa and margarine; set aside to cool. In a medium bowl, blend together the confectioners' sugar, milk and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Stir in the cocoa mixture. Spread over cooled brownies before cutting into squares.

Of course if you really wanted them "special" you could probably substitute another green plant for some of the zucchini- in that case you might want to add some applesauce for moisture though... purely theorhetical knowledge!...

Now that you mention it, I've had zucchini brownies as well, pretty good. Very moist.

I have tried the zucchini variation before and they are good. Have added applesauce before too, in fact the cinnamon flavored applesauce has a slight kick in the taste buds over the regular kind...
