"Everybody else does."

Anyone whose ever had a child that wanted to do something you knew to be wrong or inappropriate has heard that "justification" in response to admonitions like:

"You can't wear a skirt that short to school."

"You can't shoot birds in our birdbath with your BB gun."

"You can't pick on kids just because they dress 'funny'. "

At the adult level the silly justification is also used:

"You can't cheat on your taxes."

"You can't buy something you can't afford."

This is also probably the unmentioned "reasoning" behind the actions of many governments who break international law, break their own laws, oppress their citizenry, interfere in the sovereign right of other nations to govern themselves, etc. (and that probably says to you that "You can't have a gun just because everybody else does."…and they're right. That isn't the reason to own guns.)

In the same way that the excuse doesn't wash with an intelligent parent, it should not wash with the intelligent citizens of any country, who are after all, the "parents" of that country (if it is not a tyranny).

The citizen of a tyranny can be considered the child of an abusive parent. Back in 1776, some of those children grew up and stood up to their abusive parent and earned their emancipation. They started a new country that was to be based on the power and wisdom of THE PEOPLE to govern themselves and therefore parent the new country they gave birth to.

It appears that over the ensuing years the people have lost both their power and their wisdom, as they now unwisely leave the important decisions of their country to a government that has usurped their power. It appears that owing to the laziness and apathy of the people, the government has effectively been the parent of the country for some time now, and now that it has the power it took from it's citizens, it is exerting that power to abuse them and act like the tyrannical, abusive de facto parent that they once fought a war to be free of.

It appears that THE PEOPLE have regressed to become children over the years since they first grew up, and that they are once again the children of an abusive parent who deserves no respect, and who will only continue to abuse them even more as time goes on.

When are the children going to grow up again and stand up to the tyrannical abusive parent? (IMO, it had better be soon because the situation is only getting worse the longer it goes on.)

A revolution is needed. Whether or not time has run out to make it a peaceful one is not known. What IS known is that delay makes violence inevitable with or without a revolution and stacks the deck in favour of the tyrant winning against any revolution the people start.

It is time THE PEOPLE grew up again, and the sooner the better for all concerned. Years ago would have been a good time to start a revolution, but we can't move back in time, only forward. Of the time that's left, I'd say NOW would be the best time. It may already be too late to win it, but there is no other choice, unless you prefer to live under a tyrannical and abusive parent (who may one day kill you) just because "everybody else does."

The Second Amendment of the US constitution was put there for a good reason; this is the reason it was put there. Don't let a tyrannical, abusive parent take way your right to own military grade armaments; you'll need them when you finally grow up.

Apparently (according to those not in the know), the world ends tomorrow, thus putting an end to your personal turmoil.

What turmoil? If you wanna come to my End of The World Party, don't forget to bring your own party hat.

hate to burst the collective bubble here but I stayed home with my children for 14 o 15 years and none of them ever used that phrase

probably because what we were doing was already pretty interesting, and they never seemed to care about what anyone else was doing

and they did not have unreasonable restrictions (even tho I was pretty strict about some things - like honesty, personal health, and safety)

On the Thread-Topic!

Think the Armed Forces Might Save the Republic? Think Twice

Here's a cheery little document that looks at the costs and benefits of a national police force. Sound familiar?

A Stability Police Force for the United States: Justification and Options for Creating U.S. Capabilities "Security requires a mix of military and police forces to deal with a range of threats from insurgents to criminal organizations. This research examines the creation of a high-end police force, which the authors call a Stability Police Force (SPF). The study considers what size force is necessary, how responsive it needs to be, where in the government it might be located, what capabilities it should have, how it could be staffed, and its cost. This monograph also considers several options for locating this force within the U.S. government, including the U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S. Secret Service, the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) in the Department of State, and the U.S. Army's Military Police. The authors conclude that an SPF containing 6,000 people — created in the U.S. Marshals Service and staffed by a “hybrid option,” in which SPF members are federal police officers seconded to federal, state, and local police agencies when not deployed — would be the most effective of the options considered. The SPF would be able to deploy in 30 days. The cost for this option would be $637.3 million annually, in FY2007 dollars."

Isn't it heartwarming to know that your government is looking at the means for keeping any untoward eruption among the population under control?
