I carry a gun because I am scared of everything in other words.

I carry a gun so I don't have to be afraid of everything, and am able to defend myself or others when the need should arise!

Don't confuse your fear and lack of defense or responsibility with my ability or desire to be prepared and not a victim!

I've served in the military packing one of these weapons to defend your freedom (what little remains), but you wish to take away my ability now to defend my own home and family!

A little selfish on your part I would say!

If your life were in peril, you would thank your god someone like me was there for you.... even pray for one if they weren't!

Don't preach about gun control until you have been a victim of such things, or in a life threatening situation!

Why I Carry a Gun

My old grandpa said to me, "Son, there comes a time in every man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually it's when he becomes too old to take an *** whoopin'."

I don't carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry. I carry a gun so thatI don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun becauseI love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

"Police Protection" is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves. Police do not protect you from crime; they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess. Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an *** whoopin'.

Willowdraga,
why do you lock your doors at night?

What would you do in the event of a home invasion?

I actually forget to lock mine all the time but it is so the local homeless do not open the door in the middle of the night and get their limbs tore off by my dog. I have to be responsible with my dog.

If I lock my door...lol... home invasion isn't really a possibility for me but I have always kept the house dark so I will have the advantage if someone were to get in. And they best hope I don't get a hold of them, they will be oh so glad to have a police man get here...lol

Serving in the military, you will always get my thanks for giving to our country. That said, I really don't want to take your right away to keep a gun for your protection.

I want the killings to stop and if I have to sacrifice my right and yours to save children, I will.

Disarming America giving up your defenses, giving up your rights.....you nailed the agenda!

Any who give up their rights and freedoms in the name of security, deserve neither and will lose both!

How does allowing only criminals to have these guns protect children?

They are NOT going to quit making them, just making it a crime for law abiding citizens to own them, making us all potential victims to the criminals!

Oh what fun! Mindless stupidity!

Mexican border towns will become the new America! At least it will give FEMA a chance to use the 8 Billion hollow point bullets they ordered!

Taken from an article on home invasions....which are rising with the failing economy!

"Unfortunately, at the same time that we are seeing society become more unstable, we are also seeing many local police departments around the nation make huge cutbacks.

For example, it has been announced that police stations in Detroit will now be closed to the public for 16 hours each day in an attempt to save money.

In the future, you are not always going to be able to depend on the police to protect you. They might come out and take down a report once it is all over, but that won’t erase what just happened.

A while back I wrote about how many of our formerly great cities are being transformed into post-apocalyptic hellholes. Sadly, wherever you have dramatic economic decline you almost always also have rampant crime.

As the economic crisis in America gets even worse, the number of home invasions will surely go up as well.

Now is the time to get prepared for that."

I'll stay prepared thank you.....legally or not! My family depends on it!

"The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms

has justly been considered as the palladium

of the liberties of a republic;

since it offers a strong moral check

against usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers;

and will generally,

even if these are successful in the first instance,

enable the people to resist and triumph over them."

NBP is scum and deseve to be disarmed.

as soon as the NRA is,,,,

gun control WILL happen but only with responsible legislation that is not party to extremists on either side. the problem with the OP is that it is reactionary. I have seen nothing depicting responsible owners of - say - a couple hunting rifles - as monsters. what I have seen is level headed discussion on the need for control and legislation regarding assault weapons.

I've seen no one advocate abolishing legal arms for citizens.

That will be the logical inevitable course!

I have a couple thoughts here

the first one is if american children gunned down by another american isnt worthy of being 'politicized' , what is?

the second one is that anytime there is a tragedy in the news, there is a period where opinions and media and pundits focus on it in their discussions

,,this is nothing new, and nothing wrong in my opinion,,,its worhty of the discussion and the emotional responses, these were children and we have alot of parents in this country

as a christian, I recall all the pushback over the dnc not metnioning God in a document

as a female, I recall the pushback when Limbaugh called a young woman a slut for using birth control

,,,its great we are in a country where these things DO matter enough to make the same amount of press as the latest celebrity breakup

just my two cents,,,,
as..............Never let a good Crisis go to waste?

there is the rub,,,NOT talking about tragedy is wasting life

if we dont discuss a 'crisis' when it happens , when there is a spotlight on it rather,, then when should we talk about it?

truth is,, as awful as this particular shooting is,, its nowhere near the only one to happen,, even this year alone, its not even close to the only one

when these 'crises' happen often enough (88 so far this year) , there will never be a time when discussion and such a 'crises' can happen without overlapping,,,

so though I dont agree with exploitation, I consider it not to be exploitation to merely discuss facts and reality of such 'crises' and to have the discussion on how to decrease the incidence of such crises in the future

I think its more exploitive to use such crises to try to bully people into silence by guilting them into feeling they are being 'exploitive'

many confuse regulation with prohibition,,,,we regulate marriage(for now), based upon things like familial relation and age, but marriage is certainly not prohibited in any absolute sense

we regulate vehicles, based upon emissions and licensing and registration,,,but vehicles are certainly not prohibted in any absolute sense

banning ALL guns would be illogical,, discussion and regulation of the TYPES of guns available and to whom would not

my uncle stopped a home invasion with a gun,, and it was not one that shot dozens of rounds a second either,,, two bullets from a regular handgun,, all it took

THATS reasonable,,,the bullet is what delivers death, not the gun, an unloaded gun is harmless, but a bullet from any gun is dangerous

and more dangerous to more people if more bullets can be dispersed more easily and quickly

my mom also owns a gun, handgun, that I wouldnt want her to be without

,,,,,common sense regulation,, complete prohibition would of course be ridiculous

Mass murder can happen with a simple hand gun.

Now that we know some of the types of dangers we face,

I believe our immediate focus should be on prevention, through

security with quicker detection and response.
