The Painting
I woke up to an empty right side of the bed The covers were strewn about and the sheets had already cooled from her absence I struggle to my feet while calling out for her “Baby, where are you?” no answer I walk to the kitchen where the morning’s brilliance had sifted through the leafless trees and impaled the glass door with fall’s faint warmth The cool easy breeze gently swayed the curtains; I found her sitting out on the balcony coffee and dreams in tow she was preoccupied with life’s painting to hear my footsteps “Good morning, I was missing you” “I’m sorry . . . I woke up and saw how beautiful it was and just had to take it in” “Mind if I join you?” “Of course not” |
