Topic: do you sometimes feel...

I NEVER qualify anything I say.
Because, it is always my opinion, or my take
on the subject.
Everyone should know this.
Everyone's opinion is as valid as everyone else's.
I do believe tis the whole point of the forums.

I am always amazed, seriously, when someone takes
issue with another's opinion.
Silly.

Well, I'd take an issue with a person whose opinion is that all short dark-haired fat males must be eliminated.

Or that women with breasts smaller than a certain bra size, must undergo implant augmentation operations.

Or whatever. There are lots and lots and lots of opinons which I would take, and indeed have taken, issues with in the past, present, or future. Like today I took issue with the fact thing, and with an idiot who insists on the high fulfilment rates of Nostradamus' predictions.

Opinions can be offensive, retarded, dangerous and evil, even if they are "only" opinions.

Remember, the pen is mightier than the sword. Hitler would have not amounted to much if his opinions in general he hadn`t published in his book, 'Mein Kampf'. ('My Kind Of Kamp.')

I actually think it’s sort of condescending to add the phrase “jmo”, simply because we, those of us with brains, already know it’s your opinion, regardless of the facts.

You are right. I agree. JMHO is a different thing though -- it is not an opinion merely, but a HUMBLE opinion, which qualification changes a lot of things, including an opinion perhaps having been formed, that the poster is arrogant.

I dont mean to condescend, its just that I have observed many many times that people dont know its opinion

usually the same people who believe their own opinions to be indisputable fact,,

don’t take that wrong. it was jsut an opinion, not a statement of facts.

If someone doesn't like something I post, then they can email me their displeasure with whatever post it was that upset them.

I would rather receive emails of pleasure, than displeasure.

Same on dates, and during sex.

You are a strange person, and now I have the extra duty and work to do, against my own wish, to email this to you as well as having it said here.

Now you know why you get those emails of displeasure. You screw people by doubling their workload -- the workload of leisure. So don`t be so surprised with having a full mailbox every day.

I would think that people know that it's my opinion and not a "fact" when I post something, unless I cite a reference.

I remember when yesterday you quoted from that movie. You were, from today`s viepoint, Ex-Citing.

Now as a test... how many here think I'm again swinging, unwittingly and without my being aware of it, to the far-, and socially unacceptable side of 'nitpicking'?

Blame my Mother... she said, ''A., my son, stop picking your nose. Pick something els. NO, STOP!! No picking there either,'' and she would leave the room carrying the fully laden laundry basket.

I am a picker. Guys with small peckers are pickers, usually.

So I am reduced to pick on the only allowed thing by Mother, and that is nit. Nit is it.

------------

edit:

Nit is it for a nitpicking nit wit.

I choose carefully which threads I post in. If I give my thoughts on a topic it's because I've spent a good deal of time thinking about or studying that topic. So, I'm pretty darn sure of my answer and have the ability to form a good argument. Although, not good enough to make the readers head explode, yet.

When I give an opinion, I usually say it's my opinion and I have nothing to back it up.

When I ask a question, it's because I truly want an answer. There are a number of things a don't understand and am curious about. Although I seldom get a straight answer, I can usually glean my answer by reading between the lines of posts. I look for what their trying not to say because that's often the truth.

like you have to qualify everything you post with

'thats just my opinion'

and do you ever wish others would qualifiy things they post as opinion instead of wording them as if they are facts?

do you think there is a growing decline in american logic as far as knowing the difference between an opinion and a fact?

,,,im just pondering,,,btw,,lol

I have my andy rooney moments,,,

I think in a debate (like politics) it's a good idea to note somehow whether it's an opinion or fact. But I think in regular topics, it's usually clear that's it's an opinion.

Sometimes I feel it's easier to put a disclaimer, than go through the hassle lol

To me; I state mostly just an opinion with the odd time backed up by facts. If people don't like my opinion; oh well. I will try to make them understand about why I feel the way I do but if they still don't; then I just leave the thread. No point in trying to explain myself if the person doesn't want to listen.

Yes, sometimes I feel like I need to confirm that I'm just posting my own opinion, because some people do not handle disagreements well. laugh

I don't see it that way. Based on experience here, sometimes it's best to clarify it's an opinion because of the way people react. I don't see anything condescending about stating it's an opinion.

I agree, I only post my opinion and some people flip out. I really don't think open forums are really the right place for people who are hyper sensitive, IMO.lol.

This is so true. I just find it flustering when I am trying to explain something and it comes out wrong. It always seemed to make sense to me when writing but then I realize I didn't explain myself as well as thought I did. laugh

i suspect your assumption is erroneous as its likely the public is not familiar with logic of any sort as evidenced by the drivel that passed for a presidential debate where ad hominem was the means of expression.

Most of what I say here isn't very serious. I am usually jumbling my words up, joking or being sarcastic. Unless there are proven facts needed and posted from sources, It's always only my opinion and sometimes not even that, but another point of view.

If I state a fact, it's one I have studied up on.

If, a person don't believe my investigated statement, there is always Goo-Goo.

Some folks I will take the time to provide a link if they request nicely. Others, I will just ignore and consider the source.

I have been wrong a time or two and have no problem admitting it.

I do love it when someone questions my source and I can re-verify it from a left-leaning source.

The tend to stutter worse than Barry when his tlemepromter goes haywire.

Am I close to making it onto the 'Favorite Poster List' yet?

Gawd, I hope not!

You have facts, truth...Then you have "Facts", fabricated.

It is kind of like blindly tossing a dart at a board, might get lucky, but more often than not you just spill your beer.

I completely agree. There have been several times I've had to explain my opinion in different ways because someone was too sensitive and got upset.

How is something another point of view, yet not your opinion?

So much of what's discussed here has no single right answer anyway. It's almost all opinion. If we disagree, that's where the fun starts! We work to form an argument so convincing their head explodes.

I really enjoy it when someone teaches me something new. When I learn. That's why I'm here.
