Used to be they couldn't receive mail while they were in boot camp, don't know if that is still the case or not. But how about starting a journal for yourself. You could write your feelings and maybe putting them on paper would help you deal with them.

Maybe start a long letter to him, add a little bit each day, and cut it off at each week. Then when he is able to receive mail you could mail these letters to him. Just a thought.

zanne, You don't have to worry bout him. The corps will provide.
They will transport him to a place a world away from home.
They are allowed mail in boot camp and you should be warned to NOT put any little cute things on the envelope......imagine the class bully passing out the mail and making any crude remark possible about what is observable. Plain jane letters and fine.

Your son will learn much about the Corps, his peers and himself, and no one leaves unchanged. Just be there to share what he wants to share, and what you can of "home". They all tie him together .
And remind him we are behind him to be successful. He will continue to make you proud.
