Sounds weird and like a bit of a mockery of true charity. I'd avoid it and participate in real charity for the right reasons.

This sounds strange to me also. It's up to you whether you decide to do it or not.

Why don't you ring the bell for Salvation Army or help out in a local soup kitchen if you really want to help out?

Salvation Army is a charity in the U.S. They have a red bucket and people volunteer to stand ring the bell at different places for donations. I'm not sure if they have something similar in your area, but getting involved and donating to a real charity is never a bad thing.

Hope all goes well with you in the army.

I dunno if I am late in replying to this, but honestly, I think the best person to speak to is the organiser of the event. I am pretty sure, that even though they state "whatever they like," they do care about your safety and would not have to agree to tasks that you do not agree with.

Look after yourself and do not do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. Even though this is for chairty, there are laws to protect you. Make sure you know what they can and can't do before agreeing/signing to anything.

Take care :)

While some charities do have legit "rent a kid" or "date" or other "helpers" such as gift wrappers, housecleaning, tree trimming, or even instore workers for very honorable things.

BUT this sounds very stinko and I would tell who ever is suggesting it to get lost.

THere are unfortuneately many socalled charities and non-profits not nececarrily the same thing where people come up with lame ideas and have little or no forethought or protections for the people who get involved. If you get hurt, abused, embarrassed, or worse you are out of luck because they have no security and no event insurance.

AND if you are hurt it is NOT a work related injury (even if it is sponsored by and employer) so you collect no public assistance and no Workman's Compensation when you volunteer so THINK before you get yourself in certain situations.
