Rock Center last week had a pretty story about main stream media and tore em up pretty goo too. Said what I've know for a few years and that is Fox for example takes in a billion dollars a year so it makes sense for them to spew the rhetoric that gets conservatives all fired up. They went on to say that MSNBC saw this and they do the same thing while taking in about half of what Fox does. Then we get to the pundits who make their living off of fear mongering and outright lying.

These people get filthy rich off of ignorant jackasses who do not realize that 90% of "news" agencies take a thread of truth, spin a ****in sweater out of it then give you their opinion as though it is fact and because that thread of truth exists you can identify with it and therefore it must be true.

I agree with how 'news' spins a thread of truth mixed with opinion and sells it as fact

I think though, that ignorance is more an enemy, than media.
Those who are not ignorant to how media works, do their research, and use logic are fairly safe.

It's spooky...So many people seem gullible today. We need more rational and critical thinkers...What happened to common sense? I don't automatically believe all of the propoganda that is put out each day...I assume that everyone has an agenda. And a bias...Look at the way lines are lifted out of context and placed in ads these days. Hard to tell what is true anymore or accurate...Everything can be skewed...All of the pundits have an agenda...I get tired of all of the "talking points" of the day. (Put out by both parties.)

All of the daily propoganda and "talking points" (from biased media outlets) gets posted on forums and spread through the Internet every single day. Sometimes minute-by-minute as the info gets put out...My word! I guess everyone wants to appear "in-the-know" and be the first to "report" something...Some of the stuff seems "way out there" to me yet millions of people "buy-it" hook, line and sinker as if it's "gospel" or ??...Things sure seem crazy today! Where is logic and reasoning and critical thinking and old fashioned common sense?

my brother said it best

he once explained to my son that media was like a virus on the brain, it eats away slowly at ones interest in or ability to use logic,,,,until they forget what logic even is,,,

It exists in the review of multiple information sources. Never take the word of a journalist, nor make an op ed piece your opinion. They all have an axe to grind and liberal media ... is truly liberal.

If you combine news sources with fact sources you will see where the differences are and learn to make your own opinions for yourself that strangely will not match the US national news.

A good recent example is the blaming of the Mohammed video for all the violence, some of which killed the US Libyan ambassador. When all the world was aware that radical Islamic terrorists has planned and carried out the attack, the White House and the main stream media was still pushing the story that it was an unplanned attack caused by the video. Eventually the story changes as it could not be defended but, look at the number of "news sources" involved. Many did not want to admit that the decisions, intel, and security in Libya were terrible.

In other words, use critical thinking and common sense. ... and don't drink the kool aid.

metalwing...The nation was stunned after the 9-11 attacks...Critics didn't come out of the woodworks for awhile when it came to questioning if the attacks could have been prevented..I don't feel that I have all the facts yet concerning the situation in Libya. If there was an attempt to mislead the public this needs to be addressed...We're right in the middle of a hotly contested presidential race. So the Libyan situation is a "gold mine" for the GOP. Now they have a chance to whittle-away at Obama's international affairs credentials...And fears about "looking bad" could have influenced the way Obama decided to handle the situation...I've been taking a "wait and see approach" as more and more information comes in...Bush was caught off-guard by the 9-11 attacks...It took awhile to ask Secretary of State Condie Rice (and others) about any warnings they might have had prior to the attacks...I'm in favor of a full investigation about the situation in Libya....I'm sure the president will be asked about this during one of the debates.

I'm sure you are right. The facts on the Libya situation are pretty much in. The spin is still going on. I think there is another thread about the topic.

Media outlets and groups who want to push Obama out of office focus strictly on his negatives..They look for "damaging information" and "dirt" to paint the president in a "bad light."...On the flip-side some media outlets and groups might try to "poo-poo" any hint that Obama has made a mistake. And they focus on "tearing-down" Romney and the GOP...Both sides have an agenda and bias and "lop-sided view."...There is no "middle-ground." No sense of any real fairness...Right now both candidates hope to appeal to Independents. (People in the "middle" who haven't pledged allegiance to either party.)...Great that we still have some "free" and independent "thinkers" in our country who don't automatically "fall in line" (or "fall prey") to all the hype on both sides...Very few candidates are "all good" or "all bad." I try to avoid being pulled into "witch hunts" or "lynch mobs."...It's not easy to gather facts or remain "clear-headed" when most everything is politically-motivated and skewed...I don't want to become a "pawn" or "puppet" of either party. I want to keep my mind as "free" and "clear" as possible. And the truth is that I'm not a big fan of Obama or Romney. But I have to make a choice when election day rolls around.

You hit the nail on the head! It's all about "spin" and even more "spin." (About everything!)...It gets old! And it's annoying. It's like watching little kids squabble and point fingers at each other in the school yard.

I wasn't suggesting that you took their opinions as fact. Fox was one of the few outlets that couldn't understand why the MSM and Obama were giving one story (the vidio was the blame) while Libyan's leader and most everyone else said terrorists were to blame. The video I posted gives timelines and discusses the issue in depth. I am suggesting you pick from that useful information as you see fit. It is not an op ed.
