My 9 yr old daughter says she is itchy in her girly area, her mom knew when she dropped her off but didn't say anything to me or give me anything for it, any suggestions to help stop the itch. I have her washing it right now but she says its still itchy. What can I give her to use on it which won't cause anymore discomfort.

maybe a little cornstarch...benedryl won't hurt, anyhow.

heat rash should take care of itself...but if she's still complaining in a day or so, maybe check for something else, such as a yeast infection.

the itch- try tea tree oil from the health food store. works wonders.

er...tea tree burns like a *****.

having her consume yogurt may help, as well...and prevent further outbreaks if it's yeast.

cranberry juice, in case it's a urinary issue...and lots of water.

no bubble baths either - the soap can cause itching in the genital area.

If it is a rash the hydrocortisone cream over the counter will help and using cornstarch to help keep the area dry after bathing will too.

Don't know if she is allergic to perfumes or has problems with fabric softeners or anything, but may want to stop all fabric softeners and use hypoallergenic laundry soap - the perfumes can be an irritant if she has developed an allergy to them too.

Marie is right. The same thing happened to my 8 year old granddaughter and it was the bubble bath. That could very well be it.

NO NO NO CORTIZONE !!!!!!!!

please!?

ok believe it or not....

a sit bath with baking soda or oat straw tea, make a sit bath of it

and if she has a rash use desitin ointment for about a day or 2 depending on how bad...not tooo much but it will protect.

good luck

then if it's a yeast infection which can be caused easily in girls if they do not wipe correctly... will pass also without antibiotics as long as she stays clean and someone teaches her how important it is to wipe in the correct direction....and if she soils her underwear it is better to go without then to wear them all day ...so if she notices these things , try ,without being too embarrassing ( but it's TRADITION doncha knowlaugh laugh )

to explain the consequences of such situations, like vaginal exams , and the like , believe me they do not want to imagine lying in an office with legs in stirrups..so hygiene is a huge priority, and establishes a good base for personal self respect. teach her how to protect her body and what from.

yoghurt, live bulgaris culture, plain is very good for assisting to restore flora...and can even be used as a douche or a sit bath as well, since she should not douche as she is too young.

what did i miss???...the other possibility will be that a doctor prescribes a vaginal suppository...which is also no fun at all and no woman i know has ever really found them that effective....

so ...try the baking soda...first...damn what a pain in the coochie!!!

I have 3 daughters and above answers are great... look into a change in laundry detergent too and/or dryer sheets...even if underwear is too tight that can cause problems...and forgeting to change them regularly too.

I don't use any chemicals in my home because of my youngest being special needs, but I swear by the tea tree oil, and yes it burns for a bit, but it does help for alot of things.

I use cranberry chewables they are like sweet tarts for the girls and myself, but excellent to prevent UTI's. Make sure you get 100% cranberry juice rather than a watered down 10% version. Wiping from front to back. Good hygiene for girls can never start too early. Going swimming or playing in the heat can cause rashes and baking soda or cornstarch can help especially to avoid the 'jock itch' variety that in girls can have a whitish discharge sometimes mistaken for yeast infection...

Anytime the kids go on an antibiotic I give them powered adophilus, a tsp in juice a day = 10 little cups of reg yogurt. That is what works for us.

Ain't it amazing what the body can do
Good Luck!
