i have a physical handicap due to a childhood illness.i'm a nice guy and fairly attractive.however i just can't seem to meet a woman who wants a relationship.the only reason seems to be my handicap.i guess that i'm destined to be alone and i should accept that fact.i'm not looking for pity,i just don't understand.

It is a shame that so many people cannot get past "differences" that some people have of others. I do not know, nor do I care what your differences may be, but you seem like a very nice person and I certainly hope that you have the opportunity to meet someone who cano look beyond those differences and really enjoy your company as a real person. Sometimes, I wish that individuals would just stop, take a breath and get to know each other before judging. I wish you the best, friend.

Different people are looking for different things. Live your life.
Love may come. Or it may not.

I am sorry to hear that women are passing you over because of your handicap. If it makes you feel any better; I don't have any handicap and no one wants me either. I just try to make the best of things knowing I will never be with anyone. I figure things could be a lot worse.

I find handycaps can mean more to the person with it more than the partner. It's such a big deal that you cannot imagine anyone who would love you and/or you wouldn't want to burdon someone else with such a challenge.

If thats the case, please get past it. Be a lovable person and the handycap will mean nothing to the person who finds your love.

Yeah, what HikerJohn said. You have a heck of lot more to offer with a handicap than I do without a handicap. I hope you find someone that will accept you for who you are. flowerforyou

Im raising a little boy I adopted with Down syndrome, two holes in hie heart, and born with two holes in one eye. Thing is he has a heart of gold, but some people are far more handicapped by their thinking. Whether a person one day gets cancer, is in a car accident, or is born with some sort of imperfection (according to the world's standards) the biggest handicap is in a person's thinking! Think positive and look at your abilities. Don't limit your thinking! The right person will love you regardless of your situation... never forget that!

I will probably get flamed for this but I think the handicap is less of a problem than your view of it.

If someone passes you up because you have a difference that is a blessing. You sure don't need that kind of person in your life.

And I know hundreds of People with disabilities (many profound) and they have tons of friends, date, and have partners if they want them.

I have had various disabilities over the years, some pretty darn serious, and it has not stopped me from dating. Or marrying.

I don't think it is just a gender thing either but if your disability does limit your means you have to be a good money manager and be creative about funding dateing. I sure get that since I am a big proponent of fair dateing where the gal doesn't just go along for the ride never reciprocateing the invitations.

But you have to put yourself out there. Write more about your personality, interests, values, what your lifestyle really is. Put up lots of pictures. Be seen in the world not hold up worrying about the few things you couldn't do.

Yea there are always "Crip Myths" that people with Disabilities have to dispell but hey you don't have to beat people up educateing the ones that are not worth your time. If someone likes you chances are they are not going to give a snot about some disability.

In dateing it is 1% what you don't do and 99% about what you do. Be up beat, be fun, be engageing (smile, send happy greetings, post in forums, volunteer just enough info to perk interest), be considerate, be responsible, be interested in people, be flexible, be courageous enough to try even if you fail, and be forgiveing (not to be mistaken with being over compensateing), and be a little tougher than the next person when needed and the people will beat a path to you. Least that is what works for me.

Nope; there isn't anyone. Men my age want younger women and that is just fine with me. I accept my situation and certainly don't lose any sleep over it.bigsmile
