Obama White House Awards HBCUs, But How Will the Money Be Managed?

The Department of Education recently announced it is providing $228 million in grants to 97 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in 19 states. The funds will be used for campus expansion, counseling programs, science equipment and faculty training.

“HBCUs have made enduring, even staggering contributions to American life despite the steep financial challenges many have faced,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. “The grants will help these important institutions continue to provide their students with the quality education they need to compete in the global economy.”

The announcement is welcome news for financially challenged institutions who, like the black community as a whole, have been hurting during the U.S. economic downturn. In addition, the grants will ease the concerns of critics who believe President Obama has not done enough to help the black community, his most ardent supporters.

Nevertheless, with the collapse of Morris Brown College—due to financial mismanagement, corruption, financial aid theft and foreclosure—and the overall precarious fiscal state of HBCUs, some are wondering if these schools can be trusted to properly manage their finances.

DOE gives grants to all types of schools, so there is no discrimination issue,,,,

If the gubment would stay out of education there wouldn't be a need for grants (which are really loans to endebt the next generation).

You used to be able to work and afford college as well. Some were able, some were not, but most who go to college don't expect to work in a factory, pump gas, sell shoes, etc..

The gubment upsets the "natural order" of reality, alters it making it unworkable for all!

Now we have no jobs due to the high cost of everything thay have gotten their hands into. Entitlements, student loans, war, growing gubment with new depts at every turn, creating more public debt and taxes, regulations, fees, the cost goes higher and higher, the debt goes higher and higher....

IT'S MADNESS!

When someone says we need to address "the real problem", all gubment can do is point fingers.... and nothing changes!

So, when they gonna' hold a big press conference where he's handing a big old check to colleges where everyone is equal?

As soon as Bernachi prints the money for him!

When it's either no longer acceptable to have a race listed in an organization, or when it is also acceptable if that race is white.

the DOE does give grants to all types of educational institutions

and everyone is equal at HBCU, thats what the H implies,, as opposed to it just being for black people

the reason race is listed is because of the historical RACISM within the educational system

I do tire of this 'grief' over HBCUs that were only implemented BECAUSE OF RACISM in the first place

the reason 'black' is in the name is for NON WHITES Who were looking for someplace where they could be given an 'equal' access to 'equal' education

The negro keeping their separatism status is one reason racism is still alive.

The ones who enjoy the status don't want to be equal.

Negros coming out and saying they don't want special treatment any longer could help rid some of the animosity towards them.

But, the ones who demand entitlements are much louder than those who want to be equal.

Think about it.
Why would the, ahem, minorities want an end to racism. They have instigators blowing crap all out of proportion almost every day.

The alleged white supremacists have been very quiet for years.

My point is, if the negros didn't have their instigators, could be there wouldn't be the racism they claim and then, they'd lose all that free money.

Makes sense they keep the racism pot boiling.

Tend to lose a lot by being just one of the crowd.

Hard work at school, on the job and a refusal to allow one's minority status to be an excuse for low achievement and accepting handouts

BTW.

Hopefully, soon, they will lose their status to the newly amnestied Illegals.

It is possible for a non-white person to be guilty of racism.
It is possible for a white person to be the victim of racism.
