I am getting burnt out on chicken nuggets, hot dogs, grilled cheese and spaghetti. And Hooters gets a little expensive after awhile; my son loves this place. He says Hooters has the biggest breast (chicken that is) Does anyone have any meal ideas that kids enjoy?

Kids Recipe Snake Hot Dogs
Ingredients: 1 Hot dog bun 1 Hot dog Directions: 1. Take hot dog and make horizontal slits (that go a little more than halfway through the hot dog) down half the length of the hot dog. 2. For the other half of the hot dog do the same thing but make the slits on the opposite side. 3. When boiled (or microwaved) the hot dog will twist like a snake. Serve on a hot dog bun. Kids Recipe Sailboats and Canoes Ingredients: 1 Tablespoon Mayonaise 1 Egg; hard cooked 1 teaspoon Parmesan; grated 2 Tablespoons Cheese spread 1 Celery stalk 1 Cheese slice Directions: 1. Cut hard cooked egg in half lengthwise. Remove yolk and mix with mayonaise and parmesan. 2. Fill egg cavity with yolk mixture. Cut ends off celery stalk, cut in half crosswise and fill halves with cheese spread. 3. Cut cheese slices into four triangles. Stick cheese triangles verically into egg mixture and cheese spread to form sails. Kids Recipe Sewer Soda Ingredients: 3/4 cup Chocolate syrup 1 quart Chocolate chocolate chip ice Cream 1 liter Club soda Directions: 1. Let ice cream sit at room temperature unti it is easy to scoop. 2. Spoon ice cream into glasses until it is aboiut halfway full. Pour or squeeze about 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup into each glass. 3. Slowly fill almost to the top with club soda and stir well with a spoon. My toppings are: Prosciutto, bocconcini, egg and rocket. This is a basic pizza dough recipe so you can add your favourite toppings. Just remember the golden pizza rule: 'keep it simple, 3-4 toppings max.' Ready in 1 hour 25 mins Added to favorites by 29 cooks Ingredients Makes: 4 Medium pizza bases * 300 ml Pale Ale * 7 g Dry yeast * 500 g Plain flour * Pinch Seas salt and freshly ground black pepper * 3 tbsp Olive oil Add to favorites Email a friend Print friendly [Pin It] Preparation method Prep: 15 mins | Cook: 10 mins | Extra time: 1 hour, rising 1. Place your bottle of beer in a jug of hot tap water for a few minutes; you want to get the beer to a warm temperature to activate the yeast. 2. In a mixing bowl add the yeast and beer and mix until well combined. 3. In the bowl of a mixer using the dough hook attachment, combine the flour, salt and pepper and combine on the lowest speed, add beer mixture and then the olive oil immediately. If you do not have a kitchen mixer you can do everything in a food processor or in a bowl by hand, the traditional way. 4. When almost combined increase mixer speed to medium. Knead in the mixer or by hand until the dough is smooth and elastic. Dust your bench with some flour and form the dough into a ball. Place in a bowl, cover with cling film and prove in a warm place till doubled in size, for approximately 1 hour but you can leave it for 2-3 if needed. 5. Preheat oven to maximum temperature. 500 degrees F at least. 6. When doubled in size, with your fist knock back the dough and divide roughly into 200 g portions – you should get 3 to 4 pieces. Roll into balls, then on a floured surface roll out to the desired diameter. Place the pizza bases on lightly oiled trays. 7. Add what ever toppings you like. Just remember no more than 3 or 4 maximum! 8. Cook in a blisteringly hot oven until crisp and golden. It should take around 10-12 minutes. Drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper and serve immediately. Alternate method This is a great way to have beer for breakfast and not get in trouble!!! Just kidding. |

Add some peas and carrots (canned, drained of course) and watch you don't loose a hand or fingers! |

Get a crock pot. There is no easier way to cook. Kids like beef stew, pork stew, chicken stew, etc. Get a crock pot cookbook.

Home Made Healthy Chicken Nuggets
Cut chicken breast into pieces, coat with natural yoghurt and then roll in crushed savoury crackers, cook in oven at medium heat until cooked through (cooking time will vary depending on how large your chicken pieces are). ------ 'Make your own dinner how you want!' Chop up many different raw vegies in thin easy to chew pieces, cook a variety of different meats (pork chop, lamb steak, pan fried chicken breast etc) and chop into bite sizes. Give a selection of breads - wholegrain/multigrrain/white/flat breads. Supply some cottage cheese, hommus, grated cheese and sauces and let kids serve their own foods in whatever quantity they like - this will allow them to try new foods without pressure and I find they end up eating a wider variety of foods in larger quantities than they would if I put it on seperate plates! ------ Quick Chicken Bacon Pasta 1 Packet Pasta cooked and drained 2 cups of milk Pinch of nutmeg A chicken breast cooked and chopped 3 rashes of bacon cooked and chopped 1 chopped onion 1 clove garlic minced/crushed brocolli boiled/blanched and chopped 1/2 cup corn kernels 1 grated carrot 1/3 cup flour to thicken (stir with water to form a paste with no lumps) A handful of grated cheese Fry up onion and garlic along with the bacon until the onion becomes translucent. Add in chicken and all vegetables and stir to warm through. Add milk and flour mixture and slowly bring to the boil whilst stirring to thicken. Take off the heat and add in the cheese and nutmeg, stir through and serve! --------------- Fried Rice 2 cups cooked brown rice 1 onion chopped 1 clove garlic minced 1/4 bbq broken into pieces 500g beef mince 500g pork mince 4 eggs mixed with a little milk 1 rasher of bacon chopped handful of peas a splash of soy sauce a splash of ketcap manis (sweet soy) In a large frying pan, fry the onion, garlic, bacon on medium heat until the onion is cooked to your liking. Add in the minces and break up whilst cooking through. Push to one side and cook the eggs like an omlette and when cooked through break up into pieces. Throw in the chicken and peas and rice. Splash in the sauces and stir through and serve! These are some of our favourites - if anyone wants more ideas/recipes then let me know! - I have more! |

kids will eat healthy simple stuff if that is what is presented to
them. i successfully serve them salads, with tomatoes and carrots and a variety of greens. my kids don't seem to like mushrooms though for some odd reason but they love edamame (soy beans). my kids love yogurt and will eat it a variety of ways, oatmeal, bananas, apples, berries and melons - particularly watermelon they also love tofu (we cut it into cubes and serve it with sauces like bbq sauce, tomato sauce, salsa or guacamole. kids love any kind of chip and dip including cheese dips, ranch dressing, bean dip, hummus etc. kids will generally try a variety of cereal and sandwiches - mine go for turkey sandwiches but any meat will do. my kids love vegetarian sushi and even some fish sushi. if they don't want to eat something that i like then i let them pick something else we have handy and then sit and eat what i like in front of them. this drives them crazy and when they see me obviously enjoying my dish they want to try it before it is all gone. sometimes they like it and sometimes they don't but it is a good way to get them to try things. my kids like indian food, thai food and any kind of pickles too. and any kind of potato dish usually goes over pretty well... so there are a whole bunch of different ideas. personally i don't favor hot dogs, pizza, nuggets, burgers etc. because they get enough of that garbage everywhere else and it just ain't the best healthy food. oh yeah - my kids love any kind of pasta/noodles too...pretty much |

Don't let the Toad in the Hole confuse you, it's a UK thing. I adapt mine by adding cheese and tomatoes/tomatoe batter - we don't eat meat so I make mine with Linda McCartney veggie sauages (which IMO are the best veggie sausages out there). The two pesto recipes are also 'meat free' and great with spaghetti or pasta twists and garlic bread. Toad in the Hole 8 pork sausages 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 225g (8 oz) plain flour 4 eggs 250ml (8 fl oz) milk salt and pepper to taste Preparation method Prep: 10 mins | Cook: 30 mins 1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C /gas mark 6. 2. Pour the oil into the bottom of a baking dish, and arrange the sausages over it in a single layer. Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven. 3. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, eggs and half of the milk until smooth. Gradually mix in the rest of the milk until a smooth batter is achieved. Season with salt and pepper. 4. Remove the sausages from the oven, and ladle the batter over them until the sausages are 3/4 covered. Return to the oven, and bake for 35 minutes, or until the centre is risen and browned. Don't worry if the underside seems slightly soft, as this is normal. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Green Pesto Recipe INGREDIENTS 2 cups fresh basil (or spinach) leaves, packed 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan-Reggiano or Romano cheese 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil 1/3 cup pine nuts or walnuts 3 medium sized garlic cloves, minced Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste METHOD 1 Combine the basil in with the pine nuts, pulse a few times in a food processor. (If you are using walnuts instead of pine nuts and they are not already chopped, pulse them a few times first, before adding the basil.) Add the garlic, pulse a few times more. 2 Slowly add the olive oil in a constant stream while the food processor is on. Stop to scrape down the sides of the food processor with a rubber spatula. Add the grated cheese and pulse again until blended. Add a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Serve with pasta, or over baked potatoes, or spread over toasted baguette slices. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Red Pesto Recipe 100g (4 oz) sun-dried tomatoes 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley 6 cloves garlic, chopped 25g (1 oz) pine nuts 1/2 small red onion, chopped 4 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 1 tablespoon tomato purée 5 tablespoons passata 4 tablespoons red wine 100ml (4 fl oz) olive oil 50g (2 oz) grated Parmesan cheese salt to taste Prep: 20 mins 1. Place sun-dried tomatoes in a bowl and cover with warm water for 5 minutes, or until tender. (Skip this step if your tomatoes are packed in oil.) 2. In a food processor or blender combine tomatoes, basil, parsley, garlic, pine nuts and onion; process until well blended. Add vinegar, tomato purée, passata and red wine, and process until desired consistency is reached. Stir in olive oil and Parmesan cheese. Season with salt to taste. |

Kids enjoy food that is fun, bite sized, and fresh. If it has a skewer through it, they can choose what goes in it, and you get them involved in the prep work, they are more likely to eat it. Examples:
English Muffin Pizza (they can help you decide at the store what they want on them and you assemble them together. Pigs in a Blanket (lil smokies, Pillsbury biscuits, dipping sause, you're good to go. the kids can roll them up.) Chicken Kabobs (they can help you shop for the veggies that will go on there.) By allowing them to help you in the kitchen, they can taste things they may not otherwise be willing to taste and they feel a sense of pride that they helped create the meal. If you can start even a small garden (herbs, fruit or veggies) kids LOVE garden fresh foods. |
