Ok, I am just organising to put my children into school in America for a few months, but have just realised that I have no idea what they need to wear.
What are children 15 and 16 year olds wearing to schoolnoway
Here they all wear uniforms it's easy.
It's a country school so would jeans be ok, would they wear a polo or buttoned up shirtnoway I thought dressing would be the easy part.
I don't want them not to fit in,noway bummer have never had to worry about them fitting in everywhere but they will be different to start with, I don't want them looking like bush babiesnoway

So if anyone has children around this age, a few tips would be welcome.

When I was in hs we wore uniforms. We were not allowed to wear certain colors, but every school is different. I would ask the school and get info. on their dress code. If they're allowed to have their own style, just use common sense.

They should be fine just being themselves.

Jeans are okay.I think the main thing is not wearing any closh that have writing that can be onsidered offensive to others.Or show skin on girls. There shirts need to be long enough for them to lift thair arms up,and not show skin.

Jeans are popular. Jean shorts are too. Nike shorts and black Nike socks are popular in my city. I've not seen the kids wearing Polo shirts or buttoned up ones. If they're boys, I've seen box-shaped t-shirts. Sperry shoes are popular with girls here.

Maybe buy only a few new clothes and let the children see what the other kids are wearing and then do more shopping?

I agree with what Wolfchic said. Watch out for offensive things on t-shirts and the stomach showing on girls clothes.

Forever 21 is a popular store for kids here. Also, Plato's is second hand store that has popular clothes, if you can find one there.

What is a bush baby? lol

My daughters and I are embracing the Burka. They are both getting a brand new one for the school year.

Okay, seriously, fashions vary a bit from place to place but if you go to the stores in your area you will see what's for sale and what the other kids are wearing. The schools here have some dress rules. You may want to ask the school for a copy of their dress code. My girls can't wear shorts and skirts that are too short, no open-toed shoes, no tank tops, etc.

Welcome to America and good luck! flowerforyou

Thanks everyone, I think we will go and sit outside the school and watch what everyone is wearing.
My daugher is only 14 but has a figure that has men turning around now, so she tends to try and keep it pretty well covered, she is still at an age where it embarrasses her. To many curves. Everyboy here is her best friendnoway I am so thankful she has 4 big brothers, who watch over her.

A bush baby is just a kid from the bush.

Lol, I have not heard 'bush baby' for awhile. Surely the school you have chosen will have a website to view and you can also email the school to query the clothes choices. Most schools will appreciate you asking and respond accordingly Best of luck Josie :
