I am currently using utorrent right now to download some things right now. and it is going SO slow almost 4 days later and the first thing is still only at 76% done and the second is at 58% right now and the third, fourth and fifth have not even started yet. My poor computer needs to be shut off but I want these downloads to finish. does anybody have any ideas how to make it faster? I did take my computer in on Wednesday to get more RAM added to it. Thought that would help but sadly it did not.

When was the last time you cleaned out your cookies or defragged your computer? Sometimes that helps

check out my post in the "music question.." topic a bit below this topic and see if any of those tips work, pm me if u need help.

if the number of peers and seeds for the torrent is really low, that can also be a big obvious reason the files are downloading so slow. go into speed guide, and click on "test if port is forwarded properly". a page in your internet browser should pop up, stating its forwarded properly with a green ok sign, or saying its not in a red sign...if it comes up red, that affects download speed a lot.

when I first used utorrent it was slow as hell 2 until I made a bunch of changes. hope this worx 4 u as well

Whisper, I second Ahalo's comments here.

If utorrent is going slow, and everything else is 'normal', it is -not- your hardware, and is probably not a spyware issue.

The great thing about most torrent programs is you can pause your download to maintain your computers health. I would recommend shutting your machine down for a few hours to let your hardware cool down. If you don't clean your machine out regularly, dust will be blown everywhere by your cooling-fans.

To speed your PC up, you can apply two 1GB RAM sticks, reformat your hard-drive or just clean it out. Defragmentation is always a good option.

I have a gig of ram in my computer. I just got that on Wednesday. And my computer has been reformatted recently. I thank you all for your help. I have been using this program for a couple of months now, and it has always been slow. I eventually caved in last night and allowed my computer to have a rest. The poor thing was working in over drive. And I know I do not have enough cooling fans in my computer to allow for that type of abuse all though my apartment is pretty cool, and I do have AC plus a little desk fan facing my computer. And it is fairly clean as I just bought it.

Hmm, everything sounds good. You really need to install some cooling fans. =) If you have a clean box fan, you could strip the side off your tower, lay the fan down on top of your PC on low and suck the dust out on a daily basis. That's just a temporary solution, though.
