I was asked a few weeks back to name some of the best horror films that I have come out since 2000. Figured I would share my list here since we have horror fans on Mingle. I am sure Torgo will have titles on his list that I have yet to see. This list is based on movies I have watched. So take it for what it's worth and enjoy. And please, share your list as well.

(5) Saw (2004)- Have to admit, the first film in the series is still the best. I still love when Cary Elwes cuts his own foot off. If only the dude would have had patience right? Lol. At the time it was released, Saw was a film like we had not seen. It was predicated with shock value and gross out moments. However, it actually had a good premise to it which is why I always felt it sold well with audiences.

(4) Let Me In (2010)- I hear the foreign version of this movie is better, and if that's true then kudos to this American telling of this book. It's creepy, chilling, and has one of the craziest love stories we have seen in film in quite some time. Two kids, one a misfit and the other a vampire, share a bond that, while creepy, it's also innocent. The movies has it's share of scary moments but it's the love story that drives it.

(3) Jeepers Creepers (2001)- This movie would have been ten times better had it had a better ending. The build up to the end though is what makes this film as good as it is. The Creeper was scary (not so much in Part 2) and should go down as one of the scariest monsters in horror films. Love the build up in the beginning as we get to know the brother and sister. Once we do, all hell breaks loose when the Creeper shows up. I love the Creeper vs The Car scene. Great fun.

(2). The Descent (2005)- Perhaps the best trippy ending in quite some time to go along with an opening scene that catches you way off guard. Nothing compares to the chick arising from the pit of blood, transformed into survival mode and ready to kill the beasts that hunt her. It's just plain wicked.

(1) Dawn Of The Dead (2004)- So how do you go about remaking a cult classic? This remake should be a blue print. It's beautifully acted and directed. And it has Ving Rhames kicking azz. I love the fact that the film focuses more on the humans who come from all walks of life and just want to survive amidst all the chaos around them. The film shows how difficult it is for these survivors to get along due to all kinds of biasis (even with flesh eating zombies wanting to kill them too). It's a great mix of action, horror, drama and comedy. And it was the film that introduced us to Zack Snyder.

The American version is almost a shot for shot remake of Let The Right One In. No complaints, they're both excellent. Let Me In is the only American remake of a foreign horror film I've liked.

George Romero's Dawn Of The Dead is my favorite horror film, and one of my favorite films, period. I was against the remake, until I watched the 10 minute opening special preview on USA Network, I was hooked. One of the most fun I've had watching a horror movie.

I'll compile my list :D

Final Destination (2000) and Hard Candy (2005) should be on that list. Especially Hard Candy. I saw this one at a show that hardly anyone knew about. Deserves high praise. Especially that oh-so-gruesome special scene towards the end.

Goof is talking about horror films from the 2000's.

First off, I love most of the films already mentioned above.

The House Of The Devil '09- A college student desperate for money agrees to babysit for a couple. She slowly learns this was a big mistake.
A great slow-burner. And they did a fantastic job making it looks like it was set in the early 80's.

Writer/director Ti West also made the spooky haunted hotel flick- The Innkeepers.

Tucker & Dale VS Evil '10- Turns the tables on the "college kids go into the woods and run afoul with rednecks" scenario. In this film the rednecks are the good guys.
One of the best horror comedies I've seen.

Ginger Snaps'00- Two outcast teenage sisters deal with boys, an overbearing mother, and lycanthropy.
Fantastic performances from Emily Perkins, and Katharine Isabelle as the sisters.
THE best werewolf movie I've seen since the 80's. Also loved that there were zero CGI effects.

Shaun Of The Dead '04- Friends Shaun and Ed deal with a zombie apocalypse. If they can just get to their favorite pub.
A fun horror comedy that lovingly pays homage to old school zombie flicks.

The Dead '10- An American and African soldier work together as they make their way across Africa, which is being overrun by the undead.
An excellent road movie, that also happens to be a horror film. The zombies look like they stepped right out of an early 80's Italian zombie flick.

The Loved Ones '09- Brent learns the hard way to never turn Lola down for a date to the prom, and also learns he isn't the first boy that has turned Lola down.

Attack The Block '11- A teenage gang in London try to protect their apartment building from an alien invasion.
Fun action and horror hybrid, with very original aliens.

I Sell The Dead '08- Awaiting his execution a grave robber tells his story of how he ended up there.
Creepshow meets 60's Hammer horror. Sort of a buddy cop movie, except with two grave robbers. Both Dominic Monaghan and Larry Fessenden are great as the grave robbing friends.

Trick 'r Treat '07. Interwoven stories set on Halloween: a grumpy old man who hates Halloween gets his last trick or treater, a teenage virgin must pick the right date for a get together with her girlfriends. Kids play a prank that goes to far. And a principal who moonlights as a serial killer teaches his son the family business.
My favorite Halloween themed horror flick.

Deadgirl '08- Teen boys find a woman chained up in the basement of an abandoned mental asylum. The woman is undead.
Definitely not a horror film for everyone given the subject matter.

The Cottage '08- Two bumbling kidnappers hold a woman hostage in a cottage. Unbeknownst to them a psychopathic farmer lives down the road.

Witches' Night '07- A group of friends go for a canoe trip and meet up with 3 beautiful women out in the woods. Some things are too good to be true.
This was a surprise horror film for me, went in not knowing anything about it.

Bubba Ho Tep '02. Elvis isn't dead. He's living alone and forgotten in a rundown East Texas old folks home. Fortunately he has a black man who may or may not be JFK, and a soul-sucking cowboy boot wearing mummy to keep him company.
Even if this wasn't a horror film, this would still be a nice movie about friendship and growing old. Bruce Campbell as Elvis, and Ossie Davis as JFK make an unlikely pair- which is part of the films charm.

Absentia '11- A woman and her sister begin to link a mysterious tunnel to a series of disappearances, including that of her own husband.
A rare film to creep me out.

I had nightmares of this freakin flick for weeks. I hold it high on the list just because the acting was perfection AND the story literally made me sweat buckets. I hated and loved the director for that. lol Now I have a whole list of stuff to watch from the master of horror! bigsmile

Lot of the movies on there I was planning to see. Especially Ginger Snaps. But now there's more. Yay! love Goof doesn't have limits. That's what he told me after I tied him up.

From your list I can see you're not easily offended so you'd probably be okay with Deadgirl haha

Absentia is a good creepy little film.

5 more....

Grace '09- After an accident, a pregnant woman's unborn baby dies, but the woman decides to carry it to term. She gives birth to the baby, and Grace returns to "life", but Grace now has a hunger, and the mother will do anything to feed her.
Outstanding performance by Jordan Ladd as the mother. Yep, Cheryl Ladd's daughter.

The Children '08- During a family holiday the children for no apparent reason turn on their parents.
I'm a sucker for killer kid flicks, and this was one of the creepiest I've seen.

Fido '06- Set in the 1950's. People are coming back from the dead and being used as domestic servants. Timmy has a special bond with the family's undead servant Fido, but some zombies go back to their old ways.

Dead Snow '09- Group of friends on a ski vacation end up fending for their lives when an army of Nazi zombies pay them a visit.

Severance '06- During a team building weekend in the wilderness, the employees become prey to unseen killers.
Great blend of horror and comedy.
