I'm sorry I grew up in a time when a young man had to meet your parents before he took you out, the door was always opened for me whether in a car or entering a building and the Men were someone kind even if it didn't work out between you - I don't see that kind of respect for a woman too much any more - Where has it gone?

It is alive and doing well. I see it everyday. Even helping a person load her car with groceries. I see many people still hold respect for others.

Ok, here's mine for the week. Don't want cards, letters or awards, just think it's a funny one.

Early in the week I got home from a trip unexpected so instead of calling anyone to come pick me up I thought I would grab the bus. I actually like to do this cause my particular bus is a double decker and goes on Flamingo (las vegas) crossing the strip which is a pleasant ride. As I was getting ready to get off a lady was coming on board with a wheel chair. As soon as it made it up the ramp the battery on it died. The driver must have been use to this type of thing and stuck to his route without assisting (must be policy of some kind). I stayed on the bus and asked the lady what she was going to do. She was very calm and said she was going to get off the bus and head north to her home on a transfer route and once she got home recharge her chair. Puzzled I said "but how are you going to get on and off the buses and make it to your home?". Next thing I knew I was miles away from my stop pushing a DOA electric chair and rider along with my luggage (I pack light for these trips). Unless you have actually pushed these things you have no idea how heavy they are, lol. Along our adventured route I had to take stops where she teased me telling me I needed the chair worse than she did.

Finally success, we made it to her home.

After I left her place I was walking maybe 20 minutes before it dawned on me that I had no idea where the bus stops where in the part of town I ended up in. Refusing to call my friends to come help I ended up having a very long and satisfying walk/ride home.

I love times like these as it reminds me of how we are all part of each other. The higher we build the walls around us by not jumping in and taking part the more we loose the essence of who we are and what (if even a little) we have to offer.

What does it mean to open a door, or assist someone in someway? I'm not sure what it means to them, but I'm very sure what it means to me.

I've taught my son some of those important things about being polite, and he hasn't forgotten even though he may have forgotten other things now at 15, lol.
He still holds the door open for me. flowerforyou

Women's lib or women's rights have nothing to do with men not being chivalrous anymore

It's chivalrous when a gentleman holds the woman's hair while she pukes, no?sick

It is attitude. I instilled it in my son and expect nothing less from him. So no, in my family it is not dead.

If I make it to a door first and a man or woman is close to coming in or out, I will wait for them.

I agree. That is an excuse by a man or a ridiculous statement from a woman.

The other night on a very busy 2-lane road, my van went dead. I pushed it myself for 20 yards or so before someone asked me if I needed help. How many "men" saw me pushing my heavy van, risking being physically hit by vehicles coming up behind me? Btw, there was no spot to pull over and it was too dangerous to sit there so we got it to a safe spot around the corner.

I am very thankful to those who helped and told the guys I would pay it forward but at the same time, it is disappointing to know so many who don't give a rat's behind.

I don't think it is dead but occasionally gets beat up.

It makes me furious when I see a decent guy demonstrate nice manners and do the honorable thing and get walked on.

As if a polite smile and or a thank you would melt their lips.

Yea the reason players get as far as they sometimes do is they fein good manners for a while and now many are afraid to accept honest kindness but if it is repeatedly rejected it will wither and cease to exist so I try to appreciate it and remind others to also.

People who blame Women's Lib don't understand what it is really about. WL is about equalization not makeing females superior.

stopping to help ain't what it used to be
an old trick to rob good samaritans was to get a female to pretend she needed help (easy to loosen a battery terminal). if a group stopped to help, the cable was "fixed". if the right victim stopped, than a couple of punks who were hiding would come up and rob the good samaritan
safer to stay in your vehicle and call roadside assistance, or the local police (non emergency) from your cellular telephone

I don't have roadside assistance and refuse to pay extra for it.I usually fix things myself or with a little help. My cellphone battery was almost dead and I would never call the police, they would have given me a very expensive ticket. I recently heard it costs 300 bucks to call 911 in Murrieta by the way. Your ability to be so negative about "punks" is something I refuse to be and I'm from Detroit! Be safe but don't be paranoid, just sayin'.

And referring to the other poster, yes, it is a sad world.

In my opinion, chivalry isn't gender specific. I equate it more with common courtesy and compassion. Just look at some of the examples in this thread.
