Im attempting to install Corel WordPerfect 2002 on my Windows Vista computer . (I have all available Windows Vista updates installed .) First of all when I put the CD in it doesnot auto start . So I go to my computer right click the D drive and select explore . I double click the installation .exe and it brings up the installation wizard which says it will now install WordPerfect and I click continue the installation appears to begin but then changes to a screen that says the installation was unable to begin . So ive tried rebooting and it still will not install . Ive googled this and also checked the Corel knowledge base w/no resolution . Any advice or have you experienced this ???

Brandy,

When I bought a new laptop a month ago I looked -hard- for an XP-preloaded machine, and failed, and got stuck with Vista. 3/4 of all my old programs -would not install- on Vista. Vista is a pain in the ass. Fortunately, I'm using Linux and can do just about everything I want using free software under Linux without using that old windows software.

For some of the programs which I did get working under Vista, there were several things i tried from online recommendations - one of which is to change the 'compatibility mode' to XP. Since you've already googled for help on your particular software, instead try to google for help on 'installing under Vista" in a more general sense - the advice given for other programs may help you.

You can also try downloading (for free) the windows versions of OpenOffice and AbiWord.
