Roberta,

Your browser will have no affect on your operating system. The O/S is there, no matter the browser you use. There may be some incompatibility issues between some browsers or versions of the o/s. Conflicts can occur, and this sounds like an incompatibility issue.

Here is my advice, and i can't promise this will help. If you do not like Internet explorer, and prefer another browser, i would suggest uninstalling Google chrome, and using Mozilla Firefox, at least for now, to see if the issue clears, or continues.

To uninstall programs, click start>run>control panel>add/remove, and remove Google chrome. I am assuming your pc came with internet explorer. You may need that, as some sites will simply not recognize browsers other than IE. (this is especially true in dealing with state agencies)

Next, ensure that your machine operates normally, using Internet Explorer.

If the machine operates normally, try installing Mozilla Firefox. If the issue returns, there might be another reason. make sure your browser is set as the default browser.

*edit, you may want to disable add ons from internet explorer, for now, at least

My machine operates using IE, and ive tried Firefox, and it sucked.

So you think I should go to all the add ons in Internet Explorer and diable all of them? Im trying to get it to NOT say "no-add ons", so I can use the Windows Update.

I guess its not that important, I just thought there would be an easy fix to get I.E. to stop saying Internet Explorer (no add-ons)

Thanks Mark!flowerforyou

No, your machine operates using Windows. IE is just your web browser.

Think of the internet as a highway, IE would be the car you drive.

Yes it came with I.E. installed, and after hearing you say that, I dont want to delete I.E. I just want it to stop saying that my add ons are disabled in IE when ALL of them are enabled.

I am now feeling like a HUGE pain in the azz,

so ill just keep it that way, and wont be able to manually do Windows Update.

But thanks you guys.flowerforyou

You can reinstall if you uninstall it, just check the box again after uninstalling and rebooting.

Try uninstalling it then reinstalling it.

Haha, figured it all out how to uninstall IE, did it all, rebooted, and its still there. Did it again, and same thing.

Are you sure it's there, not just dead shortcuts? Or do you mean in the list to turn on/off?

If it's in that list, it's supposed to be there so you can add/remove it whenever needed.

If you have dead shortcuts, you can delete them.

and when you go there it opens the browser, and this is on top...

Is that the one you've been opening? Because you can open IE with no add-ons, and then open it with add-ons. There's two different links, and one will say no add-ons. I forgot about that.

Oh no they don't have 9 for XP, I just checked. So, yeah for you 8 would be the latest.

So, when you go to the turn on/off windows features, is IE checked or unchecked?
