I was wondering what is your word for "querer"
In my country some people tend to make a difference between "amar" (love) and "querer". I just don´t know if you call this verb "want". In my language the verb "querer" works this way: you can want a new car, and we would say that with that verb (yo quiero un nuevo auto). and we can also tell a person "te quiero" and that means you care about that person. It is not as strong as using the verb "love". Another question: When you say to a person "I want you" does that mean you want that person in a sexual way or is it just a feeling which would be less intense than "love"??? |

I want you can mean several things. In most cases "I Want You" means I want you sexually, or intimately in some way. It can also mean that you want the person in your life, in a relationship of some sort. For me personally, if I say I want you, I want you close to me, in my life, sharing things with me and experiencing all the things that make us who we are, together.
Well, I guess most people would use the word want in place of querer as you brought up, but I would imagine many use the words desire, like, yearn or crave in substitution here. At least the way I translate it. As In I desire love, or I like you. |

It's one of those words that doesn't translate well into English.
Closest you can get is probably "desire". To say you "want" somebody usually means sexually. But you can also say, "I want you to go to the store for me". |

The strict literal English translation of querer is to want. |

"Yo Querer"....? What the hell is that?
"Yo Quero"...."I want" Spanglish?...just gotta assume that is some yankee writers version of speaking to mexicans. It only makes sense to white people. The real mexicans will look at ya like you are retarded. So will the Texans. |

The real mexicans will look at ya like you are retarded. So will the Texans. I don´t know who wrote "yo querer". I´d say the right expression is "yo QUIERO" . I just wrote Spanglish because in my country , when someone who is learning English tries to say something and uses expressions from both languages, creating a mess , we callit like that (trying to teach the student that that expression isn´t grammatically correct in English) That´s why the tittle of this topic is Spanglish, a mixture of English and Spanish. And just for all of you English speakers to know, Mexicans do speak Spanglish, I mean, they use too many expressions in English, they even use English more than Spanish in their everyday life.(of course, it has to do with the fact that Mexico is just so close to United states geographically and .... I would say it´s because of a lack of self- preservation of their own language- this is just MY opinion) |

I hear ya...
I know for a fact that they don't speak Mexican... I referred to a former lover as my "Spanish love" Her Reply...."MotherF**ker..do I look like am from f'n Spain?" So, I asked her to teach me to speak Mexican.. Her reply..."I speak Spanish" didn't help when I pointed out that she was too ghetto to have her own language. I personally dig the passion and heat from latinas and actual chicks from Espana...but, they seem to think that just because they can drop thier panties and start a fire, that they can talk trash to us pale white boys. Back on topic....where are you from Marian? :) |

Back on topic....where are you from Marian? :) hahahaaaaaaaaa. LOL!!!!!!! I get why she got angry when you called her "Spanish love" hahaha well, technically LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES are those which are in South and Central America that speak Spanish (the language is called Spanish) and Spain is not a latin american country, it´s a European one. So girls from Spain aren´t "latinas", they are europeans. This is just for a matter of making it clear. Many people, even Spanish and latin americans just belive and would say Spain is a latin american country, but geographically it isn´t. All we share is the language: Spanish I am from Argentina. (please don´t make jokes about it... I know politicians, military force and else in my country just su%@ks, so no need to make comments about that...) And we, Argentinians are also said to be very passionate, or so famous people from other countries tend to say. Specially when we go to concerts or football matches... people tend to be TOO passionate IMO |

I got no Argentina jokes.
Do they exist? If so, tell me one so I can break it out in an emergency if I meet an Argentinian. |
