On October 9, 2003 a debate was held at venerable Trinity College in Dublin.
Organized by the University Philosophical Society, the proposition to be debated was: "America's foreign policy does more harm than good." Supporting the proposition were: William Blum, American author; David Barsamian, American radio journalist and author; and Tom Hanahoe, Irish author. It is those that support the unsupportable that are the problem. Might is not necessarily right. The Use of Might benefits but a few when it should benefit all.

A lot of people in Japan like America The problem is when we "invade" a sovereign nation (Guatemala) and arrest their president (Manual Noriega) for drug trafficking. Yeah he was a sleazeball...but our laws don't apply there. How would we feel if another country stormed here and arrested our president? Pretend the prez is Reagan or someone you liked, be it Obama or Romney or whoever. Tell the people in Okinawa most people like us...you will get a different reaction the closer you are to the marine base. Lived in Germany for 3 years, got used to being treated like dirt until they knew me. Just because I was USA. Don't get me started on the tourists from the USA that visit overseas. We're like a bunch of spoiled children, literally. Not everybody of course, but tooooooo many. What about using drones to kill terrorists? It kills people nearby too, that might be innocent of terrorism. How would we feel if someone was launching drones into the USA with missiles to kill people they didn't like? We ARE a terrorist nation ourselves. I don't know the solution either. |
