Now, I'm even more skerrrrrrrrred!
Thanks for the link, Mark. I showed it to my daughter. I don't even like a plain old cell phone (have one hardly talk on it). I think I am smart enough to not have a smart phone |

Read the owner/user manuals and do your proper research and you'll be fine. Knowledge really is power and protection.

Thanks for sharing that! That's scary. I know a bunch of kids that use their smart phones to take pictures to put on FB. I'll be sharing this information with their parents.

That's why it's important to do your research. Sales people may know the basics of a product, but they're there to SELL, not educate. |

Not only will we get educated about our phones and other toys but in the long run we will have a system that will monitor us 24/7.These will all come with privacy settings, but we will need to be smart about how to use them. No need to be upset about anything but learning. We are not going to turn back the future, but we are going to need to prepare ourselves for it.
Take a look at the positive. Soon we are going to be able to have monitoring systems that will look after the elderly and children. A system that can always be turned off but can be used to read our vital signs and protect us. If we are smart we will use technology to our advantage. There are always going to be hackers/stalkers, allways have been. We look at them as smarter than us many times, but what we don't look at is that we can be smarter and better prepared ourselves. They study the same things that are available to us in order to take advantage of technology. Well the truth of the matter is if we are going to take the time to buy technology we need to do some studying ourselves. Lets look at our crrime system for another example. We are steps away from convicted criminals being chip tagged. This is going to happen and has been happening and tested for years now. I guarantee that when this is implemented you are going to see crime drop drastically. Probation will take on a completely different meaning to those thinking about doing the crime. Most times when things are new and the public is alerted they are put in the most news worthy way posible. Is it easier to scare someone or show them the positive? When I saw this newscast I said you idiots, you had a chance to show the positive and you chose once again to put fear in peoples minds. Instead why didn't they video the tech-trade-show that shows us all the positives? These things are not being built for the criminals their being built for the good guys. This all goes back to negative programing vs positive. We need to switch our minds to the positive, both personally and in the things that we take in every day like the news. I go to 3 or 4 trade shows a year where I see the positive side of things and meet the people who make them. None of these shows focus on the negatives (only) and to be honest if all of you went you would walk away feeling great about the safe world you could and should be living in. But, here's the flip side. Do we get to see these great sides first most of the time? NO. Why? Because we have been train by the media and our own government for years now to be scared. Our society is turned upside down and we are the ones letting it happen. We are actually letting ourselves be taken in by these negative campaign ads that go on every 4 years and the news that is setup to feed 85% negative into our minds every news cast. These are not campaigns and this is not news. It's poison and we buy into it every day instead of feeding off of the good news. Somewhere in our last few generations we have learned and excepted the thought that we are the helpless sheep being ready for the slaughter, and the US is the leader in this. Compare our crime rate against those countries that have very little and you will see that their teaching is different about positive vs negative. With the US having so much positive to give and do why do we let ourselves be pulled into the downside? I'm glad that we have casts that tell us the potential dangers, I truly do, but they should be co-mingled with the positives. |

It seems people need to educate themselves on how to write English sensibly, coz the school system has failed them big time, as the example shows. And I don't know what we are talking about, because I never click on links on posts that point outside of this forums system. The first issue in safety is not cell phones, but for people to try to avoid potentially harmful situations, and one of them is that they should not click on just any old link that his presdented to them. if you don't know the first part of the URL (between // and the next /) and if you don't know if that's a legal and well-established link, which you can trust, then don't click on it. The virus killers do diiiick all. So on one hand everyone is upset about some safety and security issue, on the other hand everyone clicks away at any old link they are show. Humans are hard to figure out sometimes, and we are all humans. So we ought not be surprised if we don't understand computers, because they are not even human. -------------------- I would like to suggest that people copy-and-paste text if they can do that, instead of posting links. If people copy-and-paste news items, however, then run the risk of legal action because they broke copyright laws. If they copy links, then a small portion of the population will not know what the poster is talking about, because this small portion will take safety and security issues sensibly instead of just whining about it. If you paraphrase the news item, and write it in your own words, that's no good, either, coz nobody understands the English as written by a normal adult who was educated in the North American public school system, as per above. So we are doomed. In the information age we can't disseminate information, due to restrictions of legal risks, computing risks, or basic edcuation. |

The website that link goes to is YouTube. It's a safe website. You can be sure it goes to YouTube by simply hovering your mouse over the link and verifying that the URL matches. Danger: nil. The virus killers do diiiick all. Not true. Used properly, they are an important part of keeping your computer safe. So on one hand everyone is upset about some safety and security issue, on the other hand everyone clicks away at any old link they are show. A little common sense can tell you all you need to know about the safety of 90% of the links I've seen posted in these forums. If they copy links, then a small portion of the population will not know what the poster is talking about, because this small portion will take safety and security issues sensibly instead of just whining about it. Or instead of dismissing virus scanners, people might actually use them. And use FireFox with some add-ons to prevent the spread of viruses, worms, malicious scripts, etc. |

Or instead of dismissing virus scanners, people might actually use them. And use FireFox with some add-ons to prevent the spread of viruses, worms, malicious scripts, etc. You are right, spidercomb. I could learn to use a virus killer right, and I could buy or dowload free software (possibly infected with viruses) to check if a posted linked link-looking something is pointing at something which it appears to be pointing at. I, however, said I that I am a human, and I'm not even near finishing to learn what humans are all about. I can't spend mental and emotional energy on learning virus killers for computers. It is not something I would enjoy, even if, like you say, and on this topic I believe you 100%, they would be useful. I am at a stage in life in which my mental, emotional and time resources are limited, so I choose very carefully what I do, when, for how long, with whom, at what ambient temperature and pH level of the atmosphere, how, why, and for what purpose. ---------- Now go ask all the other posters on this forum topic who of them uses virus killers, and who of them uses not, if they know how to work them, if they use firfox, or have it installed in the first place, etc. etc. I bet the only difference at hand between them and me on this very specific topic is that I don't click on just any presented urls. I know you are very different from me, and I assert you are very different from other users on this forum in your and their, as mine, level of computer / virus / operating system knowledge. I know nothing, or very little. You know a lot. Each to his own resources. My answer to internet-spread computer viruses is that I don't click on unverified links. Period. |
