Just came back from the cinema. You know It's funny that so many people have been bagging and running this film down over the past few weeks, yet IMHO I actually liked it. I really did.

They honestly must of been watching a different movie to the one I was seeing or/ perhaps they are the kind of critics / movie fans who vote 5 stars for crude so-called comedy movies about would-be-brides burping and farting or teen males pissing in beer bottles?

I thought Dark Shadows was quirky, funny and everything you come to expect from a Depp / Burton team-up. Good performances all round and thankfully not quite as dark, as some of Burton's previous efforts.

The music and soundtrack score was also very enjoyable.

Pleasantly surprised.

I think a lot of the negative comes from the die hard fans of the original 60's soap. Tim Burton is hit or miss with me, but it's usually hit when he teams up with Depp.

Fair enough. I mean it's not the best movie of 2012, but it's pretty good for what it is. Well worth watching at least once. Have seen clips of the 60's soap and this seems pretty darn faithful for something made nearly 50yrs later, but yea diehard fans can be harsh to say the least!

And though not intentionally the original series is pure camp, which is due to the extreme low budget- you can hear actors flub their lines, see prop malfunctions, etc...so from the look of the movie I think they picked the right tone.

Totally, but thankfully no fluffs in the movie! I heard that they only did one take of everything in the original series. Imagine if TV and film was like that today!?

I have to agree here OP. I went in speculative, but came out a believer! THIS FILM WAS SO SO GOOD!!! I really truly enjoyed it.

It was cute but overrated. All the funny stuff, IMO, was what was in TV commercials, and the rest ended up being bland.

Ya know, you're genuinely the only person I know that has something good to say about Dark Shadows. I honestly didn't think it was good at all. Now, one thing I will say is that I watched online and it wasn't great quality but I expected more from Burton. Although I'm not a die - hard fan of his I honestly thought it was going to be savage. Well that was just going by the internet and the tv clip; never heard of the tv show, don't think we had that in Ireland. I'm going to get it on DVD anyways just to have and I'll watch it again. Who knows, my opinion could change.
