You can post where he stands on whatever issue you want, but his record on the economy stands for itself. A-T-R-O-C-I-O-U-S U.S. employers cut back on hiring in April and more people stopped looking for work, troubling signs for President Barack Obama whose re-election prospects could hinge on his handling of the economy. Employers added 115,000 workers to payrolls last month, the Labor Department said on Friday. It was the third straight month in which hiring had slowed, intensifying fears the U.S. recovery is losing momentum. Even a slight drop in the unemployment rate to 8.1 percent had a dark tone because the fall was due entirely to people dropping out of the workforce. "The bottom line is you don't have evidence that this economy has reached escape velocity," said Robert Tipp, an investment strategist at Prudential Fixed Income. Analysts had expected 170,000 new jobs in April, and the shortfall could open the door a bit wider for the Federal Reserve to step up efforts to help the economy. Major U.S. stock indexes tumbled, with the broad S&P index ending down more than 1.5 percent and yields on benchmark U.S. government bonds sliding to lows not seen in months. Still, the report was not all negative. The government revised upward earlier estimates for payroll growth in February and March by a combined 53,000 jobs. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/05/04/usa-economy-idUSL1E8G43V120120504 |

the economic record is not so black and white because of so many interpretations of how to measure a 'recession' and a 'recovery'
there is no way to know if the major DIP in jobs under Bush would have been repeated or gotten worse without the actions that were taken and the economy is also not the only significant issue being dealt with under this (or any other) administration |

That they are politicians makes them untrustworthy.
Most people are untrustworthy, but not because they occasionally lie. There are certain occupations that utilize lying on a constant and regular basis. That would be lawyers, politicians, CIA agents, Police interrogators, etc. That does not make it okay. Its too bad they can't find a way to be more honest but sometimes a lie is even considered necessary. But as far as trust is concerned.... that depends on what you are trusting a person do to or not do. Do I trust or believe what politicians say? Absolutely not. They might even tell the truth sometimes, but that is not to their credit if they only tell the truth when it benefits them. |

i keep hearing "all politicians lie or everyone lies" is that supposed to make it ok? so we should just back, hold hands and sing kum by yah by the fireside while everyone lies to us? if this is what our voting populace has turned to, then i want no part of it. so when you go vote, your looking for the "one that lies the least"?

That's what I once thought until a friend who was very involved in grass roots politicians enlightened me. The corruption goes all the way to the bottom. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
