I have had many friends and family enter the ranks of service to this country, AFTER, the Viet Nam conflict. Not one of them, not one, joined specifically to provide a duty to this country.

I know many teens who are planning to enter the ranks upon graduation, either high school or college, their purpose is NOT to provide a service to this country, but to gain knowledge and to further their education at the governments expense.

You can be sure, if any one of them EVER uses their enlistment as a stance against those who use the flag as a symbol for uniting, even if it's a flag turned upside down, I will be the first to let them know, that they have no more right to claim that flag than any other citizen.

Further, any who enlists in service to their country, serves the greater community of citizens in that country, not the flag. The flag is a symbol and as much as it demands respect, it is a uniting force and however it is used to unite, is a freedom that you as service personell have chosen to protect.

So Serviceman, think again before you declare your purity and your allegiance.

I not once declared any type of purity and as far as allegiance it is too my country. You know people that have joined but have never joined yourself. Believe me it may start out as self interest but it grows to so much more than that. I am not self righteous at all and will not pretend to be but the fact remains when u disrespect our flag u disrespect us all and more so service member. Do you realize how hard it is to go over to that hot dry stinky place, NO you dont.Even if soldiers dont believe in the war itself they believe wholeheartedly that they r protecting our country and its citizens so when we see the flag being desecrated, damn right we get upset cause that flag is a part of us all rather you like it or not.Try this go to mexico lower their flag turn it upside down then drape the american flag above it see what happens.

You tell em redy! we pay, they serve for us, and thats a fact jack.
I suspect Redy that we have a couple posers in our mists, and as a former member of the real deal, I can usually spot them a mile away!
Seems to be a lot of these youngins tend to be posers these days. They think it will get them attention and a piece of ass!

Might I remind people that less than 1/2 of 1% of the population are serving in the military today! As a veteran Infantry soldier in the RA, I must add that 2/3 are support personell, and most of them in Iraq are N.G. Or as we called them in the RA NO GO's!

RA=regular army! Full-time-professional soldiers!

I didnt say any name Dayv!

The only thing I might have said that regarded you was calling you a wing-nut!laugh laugh laugh
Actually, I dont think I ever said that, just thought it.
I think I might have, actually said, that a 4-6 month tour that the AF does in Iraq in a safe zone with bunks and air conditioned billets doesnt really count as time served in a combat Zone. My Opinion!

^^
maybe to you.

The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life.
The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks and who gave a portion of life for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world. The fourth fold represents our weaker nature; for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in times of war for His divine guidance
The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, “Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right, but it is still our country, right or wrong.” The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic. The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor our mother, for whom it flies on Mother’s Day.
The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood, for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great have been molded. The tenth fold is a tribute to father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since he or she was first born.
The eleventh fold, in the eyes of Hebrew citizens, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost.

When the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, “In God We Trust.”

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington and the sailors and marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms we enjoy today.
