He was attacking the Bible more than he was promoting gay rights. That was his problem. Attacking an established religion usually doesn't lead to positive results. He could have had a whole speech without mentioning the Bible and I bet more people would have stayed. I mean I am sure they knew it was a pro gay speech. He's a coward and a bully. Where is his speech calling parts of the Qu'ran "bull****"? He is angry and knew that Christianity is a soft target. Christians will just walk out when you insult their beliefs, you don't have to worry about getting your head cut off while taking a bicycle ride. |

ok, as a christian, I still think this is a hilarious and balanced observation I , for instance, usually wonder why I should change how I 'feel' when I am told so often by homosexuals that 'feelings' cant be changed so I cant change how I feel , and they cant change how they feel,,,Im not gonna hurt them, they arent gonna hurt me we can continue our opinions and move on,,,lol |

The same media that says that Rush Limbaugh is a bully for calling out Sandra Fluke – a woman who put herself in the public spotlight – says that Dan Savage is a hero for attacking Christian students who did nothing to earn his ire, save acting with dignity. When the palace guards come out, they sure come out in force. and thinks that the message justifies the means of expression – and since they agree with Savage, all is well with the world.
I agree. Failing to see the idiocy or immorality of people that agree with you is a really widespread problem. Some don't even consciously think 'the end justifies the means', they just fail to see whats actually happening in the 'means' because their agreement with the ends distorts their perception. Misunderstanding that when someone else tries to criticize someone who is advocating for a position you identify with, they may be criticizing their actions or words rather than their position also seems to be a widespread problem too. I think the comparison with rush is apt. Both people say inappropriate things. Both are given a pass for it by their supporters. With both, their opposition makes a huge deal of it. I have difficulty believing that most of the christians criticizing savage are really concerned about professionalism or bullying. It seems far more likely that they are seizing upon anything they can to try to discredit savage because they don't like his message. But even if that were true, this doesn't invalidate their criticism. And too many in the pro-savage camp seems to be unable to see or admit the inappropriateness of what he said, so focused they are on supporting savages' overall message and fighting against the christian attack. |
