I switched to a healthy diet in the past year, low carbs and fat, lots of vegies and fruit, youghurt, no candy and only dark chocolate for my chocolate cravings. I was doing pretty good.

A few weeks ago I was in the store, and while doing my groceries, my mind was going
"okay, can't buy that has too much calories, oh that one has too much fat, that has too much carbs, too much sugar, again too much calories."

and I just stopped and said to myself, this is not a life. I mean, I am not overweight, and although, I would like to look skinny, I don't wanna be miserable trying to be a size 6.

I'd rather eat what I like(of course in moderation)and enjoy my life, than eat salad for the rest of my life and be miserable, just to look thin.bigsmile

anyone else think the same?

You are right, eat what you want and excercise regularly and let your weight fall into place. Just watch your portions. All I ate were Twinkies for dinner and look at me!

Saturated fats are good for you and help you lose weight. Yogurt and fruit are both high in carbs. If you want to lose a bit more weight, up your protein, fat, water and sodium intake and ditch the yogurt and fruit.

Definitely do not lose the fruit. That's a bunch of non-sense.

BP 120/82 Choleserol 146 weight 173 pulse 68 height 5'8" and I'm in better shape than most and I eat Twinkies all the time! With fruit and yogurt for breakfast everyday? I eat as little saturated fats as possible.

What's your blood sugar? Plenty of skinny people have metabolic diseases like diabetes, those diseases are caused by high blood sugar.

Since the OP stated she's eating fewer carbs, here is a list of fruits with their relative carb levels.

Low-Carb Fruit: Lists of the Best and Worst

And as for your avoidance of saturated fat, what do you think your ancestors ate? Do you really imagine that humanity has evolved in the past 100 years to no longer need saturated fats? Your brain is 60% saturated fat. Your nervous system is covered in saturated fat. Your body craves fat for a reason...hint: It's the same reason a cow craves grass.

What if Bad Fat is Actually Good for You?

Similar observations were made of the Samburu -- another Kenyan tribe -- as well as the Fulani of Nigeria. While the findings from these cultures seem to contradict the fact that eating saturated fat leads to heart disease, it may surprise you to know that this "fact" isn't a fact at all. It is, more accurately, a hypothesis from the 1950s that's never been proved.

I say eat! Enjoy like you said in moderation...I tend to put weight on through the middle, when I lay off the carbs and junk food I can keep at a good weight.Use your food pyramid as a guide for nutrients, just give up a few bad foods and add some healthy ones! ex: I gave up pasta which I used to eat 2-3 x's a week ,instead I have been trying differant salads and vege mixes. No sodas or sugary drinks at all weekdays...then on weekends its my treat! (moderately of coarse).....sometimes small changes in your diet will cause for less cravings and yes to excercise even if its just a short walk ...gotta burn them calories!

Yep.

It seems that ANYTHING can kill you nowadays. Including stressing about what NOT to eat.

Eat, drink, and be merry!

Life's too short.

How is this a good diet exactly? Going low carb won't help you stay thin. Carbs keep you full. Going low fat is a horrible idea. Your body needs dietary fats. They actually help break down fat. People and their lack of nutrition knowledge.

Eat less then you burn. Thats all you gotta do to lose weight. Now it gets a bit more complicated if you want to lose weight but not muscle. Then you have to do resistance programs and get enough protein.

Actually its not. Fruits are high in sugar and cause insulin spikes which basically lead to fat storage. At the same time these insulin spikes improve your ability to absorb protein. Great for after a weightlifting session. Not so good with a bigger meal.

balance is key,, nothing has to be 'cut out' unless a doctor has specifically said so

just keep things in balance, not too much of the bad or too little of the good

enjoy life

I miss veggies. I have to eat a meat protein rich diet to keep my bloodwork normal, this means I take supplements and vitamins all the time.

My diet is a lot like yours and I don't miss anything. I will
occasionally eat carbs, sugar and fatty foods just not daily.
It is really important to be aware of what we eat because too
much of our readily available foods just have unhealthy levels
of carbohydrates, fats and salt and it is healthier for us to
eat an excellent diet.

Don't give up just moderate a bit and enjoy your healthy choices!

I think you just answered your own question; that moderation is the key. I am like you and yes; I won't buy foods that contain too much sugar, carbs, fat, or calories. I don't only think about keeping my weight down but worry about health issues. 1 in 3 Canadians has diabetes due to poor diets and diabetes can lead to things such as eye problems leading to blindness; heart attacks, kidney problems, and nerve damage to name a few. Talk to your doctor and find your healthy weight. When I say that; I mean don't go by these stupid charts you see online. If I were to be the weight these charts suggest; I would look like a skeleton. Also, the military had concluded the BMI is very inaccurate as it doesn't take into account for muscle mass.

I don't care what I eat....I eat small nibblets 5-6 times a day...Then I have a heavy meal to put me to bed.

High metabolism or tapeworms or smoking....probably help me.

Everyone's body functions differently....but I feel I can say with some certainty..it don't matter what they eat if they just sit on thier butt. They will be soft.

Why dont you just eat 5-6 small meals everyday with what your body needs and wants. Your body needs fat as well.Drink plenty of water-

Move your bum around on that and you'll be thin.

almost all the food in the stores are garbage

grow a garden or do it with a friend

then you can have your cake and eat it too

i was going crazy trying to eat healthy store food

you cant

even the veggies are not really good

find a farmers market and only eat food that tastes good

real fresh healthy food tastes good

not like in the stores

like seeded watermelon not seedless

stay away from GMOs like corn and soy

I have decided to get off this "plateau" I am going to have to cut calorie intake so I am going to 3 small meals a day and NO snacking.

It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change.
