It will also depend on whether someone is hourly or on salary. And whether someone is allowed to work overtime or not. If you're hourly and not permitted to work overtime, you're not going to bring home work.

One time I did a report at home because I needed access to social networking sites. My employer blocks all these sites (because our system is near death and they can't afford to risk any viruses....or whatever) and to access them I was going to have to go to another office and use another person's computer who had this access. I did, but it was so nervewracking trying to work with this person waiting for their desk back that I just left and did the report at home on my own computer.

Occasionally, there is something I'll do to just get it out of the way, or I'll check on an email I've been waiting for. But for the most part, my thoughts about work end when the work day ends. It makes life much more enjoyable.

Hell,Today it was 3rd round of my interview for a new job.

They told me,they can offer me the job only if I'm ready to relocate close to company ( Currently I'm 25 Kms away from the location).

They are asking me to carry my HOME to work.laugh laugh laugh

.....so that I can easily attend my duty from home at any time during night too & stay long at work during day time....huh

I work from home and I'm on call 24/7, so put me in the "yes" column.

It is difficult not to think about work when you are off because it is part of your life.

I brought work home on occasion but since I worked for the government and my work contained personal and financial information on people, it was not done unless it was an emergency type thing.

Why do they want you to relocate when you're already close to the company?

For me, it isn't that difficult (and I'm working on getting better) because it's certainly not the only part of my life. I work to live, not live to work. I'm not a workaholic. I enjoy things outside of work. So I'm learning to leave work at work and enjoy the rest of my day.

Because that distance is TOO MUCH for them.whoa

In short, their expectation is I shall be available 24 hours for service.

Really they are expecting one to make home at work & stay at work for 24 hours that too at no extra pay,nor company residence.

25km is about 15 miles. So they don't want to have to wait for you to drive into the office? They want you to be available at all times with no extra pay? That's awful. I'd say no.

Exactly,I'm also denying.

Why the hell shall I make my okay okay life miserable?

Anyway,thanks for your opinion,singme.

I don't have grandkids yet, but my kids' friends have little ones. I babysit occasionally for extra spending money. So yes... I sometimes work at home. But it's mostly fun as I get to spoil them and play with them and then send them home. Just like grandma, only I get paid for it bigsmile I'll have them all this weekend and by the time they go home, they'll be spoiled rotten and I will be a very exhausted lady laugh
