I think you've cherry picked your examples. Mistakes have been made, and fraud has happened. But there is abundant evidence of intermediate steps in evolution.

A few museums can't display the large body of evidence that we have. Museums have to pay for their own maintenance, and a good museum has a few bean counters arguing about 'cost per square foot' and the 'social benefit' of each display. A photographic encyclopedia would be a better resource, and even better still imo is the writings of the scientists that have personally handled and examined the evidence.

There is nothing factual to recommend intelligent design over evolution. The main reason intelligent design is preferred by some over evolution is that it its a more pleasant belief for the belief holder to have.

Choosing to believe in intelligent design is often about 'what you want to believe', this much is true.

But why would you assume that others would be so careless with the truth?

For many people, finding out the truth is more important that settling on a comfortable belief. Those people have higher standards.
