Donna, look up the old dust storms on google for west Texas and you'll see what we're talking about..we still have them sometimes, and with the drought we're having, they're coming more often

Vivian, I watched several utube videos on dust storms in Texas. Oh my!! I cannot imagine what it must be like to go through them and it does appear to be frightening? Do you all encounter damages due to these storms? How often does this happen, these dust storms? Are you still in dought conditions in Texas? Do these storms occur when there is no drought? what noway

laugh No, we don't have them that bad anymore..We did have one like that a few months ago..It shook up a bunch of people. It was on TV, my gosh, they acted like it was something new! I can remember hanging wet blankets over the doors and windows to keep the dust out. And like Glenda said, wondering if your house would blow away. They can do damage. In a total blackout they shut the highways down.
In the 70's, my grandmother lived in Hereford about 60 miles from here. She had a stroke during one of the dust storms , and no one could get to her for 3 days. At that time, I lived in East Texas, we even got dust from that storm there.
Yes, those kind of storms only happen during droughts..But we have dust storms all the time. It's the nature of the beast here in the Panhandle and South Plains.

Dust storms still occur in El Paso, looks like a huge thunderstorm (dark billowy clouds of dirt) from a distance.
