Wanna know what makes a relationship work? It's when you decide that you simply want to be with a person. I get so tired of how people want to break down all these different values that have to be there. Of course they do. Stuff like communication, trust, respect, blah, blah, blah. Guess what? It phucking has to be there. But what it boils down to is your own desire to be with a person. If you want him/her, then freaking bust a nut and do it. I say this cause, when a relationship goes bad, what starts it all is one person's desire to not be there. That happens, all the respect, communicatiion, love, honesty, etc.....it falls by the wayside. This has been a message from Goof and I'm gone peeps. Yo!

basically yes - if you are drawn to that person and want them in your life as your romantic partner you and he/she will make sure the ingredients are there!! Or figger out how find the missing ones - together:thumbsup:

Well first of all, you have to define what a successful relationship is.

Here is my definition:

A successful relationship to me is one that I would do all over again if I had the chance. That relationship was for the most part great each and every day. And I have no regrets ever being in that relationship.

It seems to me, that many relationships are actually pretty good. But things change and so do people. That is when the relationship can fall apart. And it can get pretty bad when that happens.

On the other hand, there are those relationships that start off rocky and stay that way the whole time. That in my opinion is not a successful relationship.

One more thing, can a relationship be successful regardless of how long it lasts? Yes, I believe that. It's okay to have more than one serious relationship in a lifetime. That's how life works, well at least nowadays.

I would bet that anyone on this site or any dating site has been in at least one serious relationship. Just because the relationship is over does not mean it was not a successful relationship.

The first thing that is a must in any serious relationship is that man and woman need to be best friends. Best friends will do anything for each other. That should sum that part of it up.

Provide for each other. Financially? Yes and No. There are probably many successful relationships of couples that are poor. It's not all about the money. Emotionally? Yes, absolutely positively! In hard times and good times. Just show that you care about the other person. That goes a long way. Mentally? Yes, support and encourage your partner in what they do. Even if it means making sacrifices on your part. Physically? Well if the sex, foreplay, massaging, kissing, hugging and touching are not exciting you, it might be time to end what was once a "successful relationship".

And finally, use words to let your partner know that you Love Them! If you can't do this everyday, then maybe you don't really love your partner. No love equates to a relationship that is not successful.

according to me a great relationship is where we allow each other to just be what we are..

A sucessful relationship is kind of what makes each person happy. What would float some folks boat would make me incredibly miserable and vice versa. I think Leigh has some of the basic elements down pat but not sure it is that scientific.

To me it is a person I can not only tolerate day in and day out but generaraly lookforward to shareing my life with. It doesn't have to be all wine and roses every day but comfortable overall would be nice.

Being ok just the way I am sounds pretty good too but then I would hope at least occassionally a partner would challenge me to be just a little more. Maybe being forgiving when I was a little less than ok.

I would like a relationship that has a little flex in it to accomodate that I am not just a cookie cutter cutout that will remain static untouched from what they picked initially.

To me it is based on ears to hear with, namely your partners viewpoint. It is based on a heart that loves even the little quirks your partner has. It is based on respect and loyalty.

Heck, I don't know!

My late husband was also my best friend.

We had love, trust, respect for each other, no secrets except for Birthday and Christmas presents. If we argued we never carried it on, often agreeing to disagree.

We were always there for each other.

Simple really.
