Topic: The Psycho Side of Love | |
---|---|
Psychiatrist Dr.Keith Ablow has written a commentary about the psycho side of love.
He writes, "We commonly seek to balance the disequilibrium from the past with an equal and opposite force in the present. This can create difficulties in people who are psychologically stable—when feelings of monotony or isolation or lack of stability set in—but in people who are psychologically unstable it can set the stage for extremely intense feelings that are only sparked by the love object, then turn into a bonfire that has nothing to do with that person and can even destroy him or her." Know any love psychos? |

Let me re-phrase the question. Do you know a love psycho besides yourself?

I may happen to know of one. She's my former husband's girlfriend of over 7 years. She's emotionally unstable when it comes to him or the idea of a him...wanting to smother him and push him away at the same time...afraid of being rejected and insisting on being needed. Part of me feels sorry for him...though he created his own trap. She can be loving and extremely frightening at the same time. I don't believe he actually knows if he won't leave her because he loves her, because he fears her, because he pities her, or a combination of emotions.
