Inside the Room

Just beyond
the large windows
the city’s heart
beats furiously
as its light illuminates
the darkened room

Just inside
the large windows
one rhythmic shadow
fills the room
with a passionate heat
that burns deeper
with each kiss
as soft moans
intermingle
with the bed gently
tapping the wall
and the ceiling fan’s
humming twirl

The covers
are strewn about the bed
entangling
the lovers in its grasp
until
time stands still
silence whispers “I love you”
and the lights begin
to fade
