OK - So Newt and everybody else got stomped by Romney in FL.
Newt's humiliating loss came in part from this negative ad
clip which shows Tom Brokaw reporting the news in 1997 when
Gingrich was unanimously censured and fined over serious ethics
violations.

Here is the video:

It certainly is a damningly effective negative ad. Gingrich
has appealed to NBC and Brokaw who have caved and have asked
Romney to stop airing it.

But as I see it, this News story from yesteryear is a perfectly
fair and balanced use of the report for educational and
noncommercial purposes and simply relates a frank and clear
item of timely news. Of course this is quite bad for Gingrich
but it's the truth of what happened so I don't see any reason
why Gingrich, NBC or Brokaw could possibly object.

And I do not think this ad was at all unfair by Romney.
Many people have likely forgotten the embarrassing magnitude
of the Gingrich ethics scandal but it is certainly a very
important issue in deciding whether or not Gingrich is a
reasonable presidential candidate.

Do you think this ad is fair?

Schieffer: No surprise if Romney wins thanks to ads.
In CBS News' exit poll on primary day in Florida, voters said that they are sick of the negative ads. "CBS Evening News" anchor Scott Pelley asked primary Washington correspondent and "Face the Nation" anchor Bob Schieffer in Miami what he is hearing. A transcript follows:

Schieffer : If Romney wins tonight, as every indication is that he will, it won't be hard to figure out why. He dumped nearly $16 million worth of negative ads on Newt Gingrich. Gingrich spent about $4 million. I mean, this thing has gotten so nasty down here that columnist Dave Barry of the Miami Herald said today that Florida should have prepared for it like they prepare for a hurricane. But he said instead of nailing plywood over your windows, they should have nailed it on front of their television sets.

Super PACs to reveal funding, spending
Super PACs exposed: Groups report fundraising and spending
Gingrich super PAC enters negative ad war with $6 million buy

Pelley : The candidates have gone after each other so hard, that somebody in the newsroom Tuesday said that the winner of the Florida primary might be President Obama.

Schieffer : Well, he hasn't won yet, but I'll tell you this: This is going to cost the Republicans. An ABC poll the other day said among independents nationally, Mitt Romney's favorability ratings have gone from the mid-40s down to 23 percent. So they're gonna have some stuff to do to correct this.

What makes this a classic is the fact that "Cooter" from The Dukes Of Hazzard was the one that started this campaign against Gingrich after Gingrich beat him in 1994..

They should have thrown a quick shot of Daisy bent over pouring a beer at the Boar's nest for good measure..

haha

You could feed all the poor in Houston for a year or better with what that add cost. (still think it was fair)

Yet by watching it you never get a clue as to the person that is using it to become President.

Still think it was fair?

Having KNOWN about Mr. Gingrich's past I allready took his past actions into account. (the good way outwieghs the bad)

Now I can place Mr. Romney's charactor based upon his actions.

I know that if I have to fight him I best wear a cup cause he kicks for the nuts. (and claims his friends at the super pac did it).

well, I dont personally cater to what people did 15 years ago,,,but I know many voters do

I do tire of the old script though, it bores me, I Wish there was alot more of candidates advertising why they are the best choice instead of just attacking how poor a choice someone else would be,,,

Given the propensity of people 'checking' all the 'facts'...

This add may backfire.

Sending many hunting that past history.

And discovering that (although violations did occur).

The witch hunt that caused the 'censure' was a direct result of Mr. Gingrich pissing off the power players by getting bills passed that were GOOD for the Country and wanted by the People...

But not wanted by the powers of the time.

On both sides of the two party farce.
