Topic: Stephen Kings It. Book vs The movie | |
---|---|
Throughtout Childhood and adulthood I have seen the movie quite a few times. I finally finished reading the book almost a month ago. I have to say the movie took a lot of liberties but surprisingly I agreed with most of them and I understood why many elements stayed in the book. There were however a few parts in the book that I wish would've made the movie. What do you folks think?

Movies taken from books usually do take liberties. That is the nature of the industry. Thats why I usually do not like to watch a movie that was an adaptation of any book I already read.
But as in the case of IT, the only thing that was out of place was the creature in the end. That is so not what I had pictured in my head as I was reading the book. A cheesy spider. Oh, ok. |

I preferred the book, I usually always do.. The movie was "meh" at best. I am like that with all King adaptions though. In some cases I like several of the film versions, but I much prefer reading it really.

My biggest gripe with the adaptation is the cheesy spider like justme mentioned. The cast was decent and had good chemistry(both adult and kids)
Even though it also took many liberties, the best TV adaptation from a King book for me is Tobe Hooper's Salem's Lot. But The Running Man made way too many changes that it barely even resembles the book it's adapted from. Considering how many of his films have been adapted I think King has had a really good track record of films- Carrie, The Shining, Dead Zone, Stand By Me, Misery, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Delores Claiborne.... |

I wholeheartedly agree! I LOVED the book, couldn't put it down when I first read it. Same with the Stand. The movie was lame.

I thought The Shawshank Redemption was the best adaptation of them, and I agree The Running Man was one of the worst. Another bad one for me was The Langoliers. Don't get me started on the Tommyknockers either. I loved both books and stories though.

Don't get me started on the Tommyknockers either. I loved both books and stories though. And more recently Bag Of Bones, it wasn't horrible, but left a lot to be desired. Also the recent version of Children Of The Corn, which had a cast of the unscariest kids I've ever seen. |

IT is my favorite SK book...and in turn my favorite SK movie adaptation. The book was vastly superior ...but I thought the movie was well done too. Loved the casting in it. And although there were obviously differences, it wasn't enough to make the movie bad. And I didn't like the spider at the end either ...but it kept with the book in the sense that IT in its natural form isn't something humans could process, si it had to take another form ..which just happened to be a spider. Lol

Lol Although I didnt like the spider creature at the end I still enjoyed the movie as well as the book. When I watched the movie with directors commentary the actors commented on how even they didnt like the ending and how they wished they would've faced Pennywise at the end. Personally I agree with the actors on that one. |

Although I thought the spider creature sucked, I will say I thought Tim Curry made a fantastic Pennywise. That was one of the things that did spook me about the movie.

I wholeheartedly agree about Tim Curry's performance as Pennywise. I don't have a fear of clowns but talk about a fictional character that I still have nightmares about. |

I do not know how they were going to accomplish that and have it make any sense. Did they ever make that into a movie? |

It was greenlighted with Ron Howard at the helm, there was even going to be a TV series that tied in the movies. Javier Bardem was cast as Roland. But it was cancelled by Universal. |

Do they say why it was cancelled? Apparently Universal's parent company Comcast wants Universal to do lower budget less risky movies.....probably a lot more to it than that. |

I heard talk years ago that they were going to make his Gunslinger books in to a movie. I do not know how they were going to accomplish that and have it make any sense. Did they ever make that into a movie? It has been made into an ongoing comic strip along with a few other of his works. |
