From all accounts, Mitt Romney's visit to that veterans shelter just behind Boston's City Hall Plaza was not one of the brighter moments of his campaign for US senator. When director Ken Smith told him that one of the things the shelter needed was fresh milk, Romney replied jokingly that maybe the veterans should be taught how to milk cows.

But there has been some good fallout from the story for the shelter.

Since reports of Romney's gaffe circulated, the shelter has received donations from two local dairies. Cumberland Farms provided a Veterans Day breakfast and will donate 2,000 pints for the week between Christmas and New Year's.

The mainstream media should have pounded this story along the lines of "Let them eat cake"

It showes how totaly clueless and heartless this candidate of the 1% is.

TOTALY HEARTLESS.

I don't like Mitt Romney, but researching this story actually makes me like him a bit more.

You see, your source only has a tiny part of the story.

The homeless shelter taught homeless vets job skills. Mitt's joke came shortly after he was shown all of the job skill programs and was good natured. The guy who runs the place says that Mitt Romney anonymously paid for half their milk costs for the next two years.

Mitt Romney - Ted Kennedy Milking Cows

For the next couple of years, not weeks, and not months, but for the next couple of YEARS, the bill I got from the milk supplier versus the amount of milk we were consuming was cut in half.

Years later, I found out that the anonymous donor was Romney.

Out of his own pocket he did this.

No press releases, no media attention, no “Look at what I am doing for homeless veterans” just him doing something that was good, and his generosity helped thousands of veterans who were homeless with nourishment everyday.

If it was anonymous how did he know its source? Just curious . ..

The article doesn't say. I feel that I can trust the word of Ken Smith, a retired combat veteran who spent year running a homeless shelter for veterans. It's hard to imagine why a man with his history would lie to protect Romney, if Romney really didn't do the things Ken Smith says he did.

I can see why they want to spin this story its called damage control.

totaly tasteless and heartless and I am sure IF he did donate it would be well worth the cost to put a posative spin on it.

I am no fan of Romney, but I believe we have all had open mouth insert foot syndrome a time or two. He seems to have it more than some granted, and I still thinks he is an jackass.

Would have been hysterical if the director had said they can't since Congress and the FDA outlawed it. We can't afford a dairy license.

I understand. I give what I can, seems so... not much.

The problem is, we don't have any shortages, there is PLENTY to go around. The universe is abundant, it's the politics behind it all.
This pisses me off!!!!

It's disappointing that people think the fruits of other people's labor should be free. There is a lot of support for the idea of slavery in the world still, they just call it "redistribution" or "social justice".

It's very simple, the problem isn't a lack of food, it's a lack of wealth. The world needs capitalism to generate more wealth for people, so that they can afford food. Capitalism is the only system that has been shown to allow people to claw their way up from crippling poverty.

To demand fruits of other people's labor is to demand their slavery.

Good thing that things are changing then so we can consider service to each other as service to each other and not slavery...

Forcing someone to do something against their will is slavery. If you "understand" that, then I'm just shocked that you are pro-slavery.
